  • [General Care] PVC Tank Help

    HELLO...Just a few quick questions...
Am picking up my new(used) PVC tank for my baby-it has a Helix therm. and a 300 watt heat panel.
I was wondering what to do for internal lighting and an undertank heat source is needed. Please any information is appreciated-
I have used an Atasuka tank for 5 years its 4ft long and this upgrade is 7.5 ft long. Thank you in advance for
    any advice....Juanita

you dont have to have internal lighting, as long as the boa has a day/night cycle. it already has a 300 watt heat panel? if it does then all you need is a thermostat to keep temps correct.

I am picking it up today...it has a Helix DBS-1000 thermostat...was curious about lighting
Because it looks so dark inside...and belly heat because I am use to using a heat pad, ceramic
heat emitter and a day glo for day time. Do I need a to add belly heat? I aplogize if I sound stupid
but I want to have this fully set up before he goes in...and have absolutely no idea about PVC enclosures.
Also have to clue on how to set up a Helix thermostat...thanks so much

Hey, make sure you check that thermo out really well. I know in my 4x2 tank, I only need an 80w RHP to keep temps. 300w could be dangerous if the thermo goes out for some reason - you're getting it used so you don't know what it's been through. You don't need under tank heating with a RHP, but some like it (supposedly aids in digestion). If you go that route, I imagine you'll need a thermo that can handle two outputs. If the one you're picking up only handles a single output and you want to go with additional under tank heat, that's all the more reason to get a new thermo.

Just use a temp gun to verify the temps on the hot and cool sides... I would do this when the RHP is cycling both on and off as the temps will fluctuate if you are not using a progressive thermostat. That should tell you if you need belly heat or not. Unless the room is cool or the cage is tall you should have power to spare with a 300 watt panel.

Well...fully checked... The Helix is maintaining temp perfectly and after 3 days have finally moved Baby in...
Thank you all much for the input...still tossing around belly heat but for now all is good!!

                        Is this enclosure in question?
