  • [Substrate] Cypress mulch?

So i'm currently switching from aspen to cypress mulch, I dislike paper substrates very much.I'm curious what others opinions are on cypress mulch, I enjoy it so far provides great traction, my male Suri enjoys it.I also need to know how everyone dries it out, do you bake it or what cause it provides way to much humidity haha, or should I just add more holes to my tubs etc.

I usually put mine in the oven at 300 for about a half an hour. Make sure you stir it up a couple times so it dries better.

Honestly just going through substrates to see which suits the animal best.I heard a whole lot of up talk about corrugated liner, and it's no different than news paper. It provides little to no traction for the animal. So I'm going through other substrates besides aspen, the boas seem to enjoy the cypress mulch.

Well aspen is good to use, you just have to bake it in the oven first. Many people use news paper because it is an easier clean up job. I myself don't use it because news paper can slightly injury your pet, do to paper cuts, and when news paper is wet it leave in ink print behind it. So I prefer paper towel, not news paper but others may disagree LOL. I also use cypress mulch and it work well for my BRB & CRB.

I like to use a mixture of aspen and cypress mulch. It looks good and I don't have to mess with drying it out first.

May I ask where you got this information from? I use paper towels for my babies and aspen for all the others and I have never baked it and heaven help me if I had to with 55+ snakes, I wouldn't have time for my full time job and/or my side business besides the snakes. I just want to make sure we aren't throwing out the wrong information here.

I also use aspen and I've never baked it before using it. Sounds messy and time consuming and I only have 15 snakes, lol. I've heard of people baking cypress mulch to dry it out because it's usually really moist out of the package but since I only use that for snakes that need high humidity like BRB's I don't worry about it.

I only use paper towel. My boas are happy and I am happy. It's cheap and easy to clean. None of my boas have an issue with traction..
