  • [General Care] My boa keeps changing colour?

    Hey Guys,

my baby boa suki changes colour almost daily, she goes from very light to very dark. There seems to be no pattern to this, her temp and humidity is bang on she is perfectly happy and feeding perfectly. I have read this is quite common but no one seemed positive on knowing why this happens, i'm not worried about this but does any one know why it happens?

It is common, in fact it happens to every snake, some species more than others. Day and night will change there appreance, if they are cool or warm, if they have just eaten they will show a lot of color, if they are going into shed or not, also there mood being it calm, aggressive or sleeping will effect there appreance. Nothing to worry about just enjoy and observe and learn what the different appreances mean.

My Boas always look darker In the mornings, and they look their best In the evenings -- especially the Sunset Boas ... Not sure why though.

Pretty sure it's a natural adaption from the wild, in the mornings they're darker to soak up more heat quicker so they can heat up and move. Take a white and black car in the sun, the black car will be much hotter inside as dark absorbs more heat quicker.

I agree with this*...or else your boa just doesn't want to have any rivals for his/her attention? See this way, you don't need to buy multiple snakes to have different colors...LOL!

*they may also darken at other times so as to improve digestion or reasons only they know. Snakes are built for creative thermoregulation...one of the many interesting adaptations I love about them.

Pretty sure stress is a factor too. We are all still learning, so not one person has every answer. Which is why groups and forums are good. Many people can come together, express their knowledge and experience and people can build upon what each other has learned.

It`s` nothing to really worry about. Its pretty normal for some boas, so just sit back and enjoy it
