  • [General Care] Feeding Frequency

I had posted a thread about amount of food, but want to get opinions on frequency. I have a male DH Snow Boa, about 7 to 8 months old, and about 24" - 28" long. Currently I'm feeding him one appropriate size rat pup every 7 days (I think some people also refer to them as fuzzies).

Do you think it is too often?

When should change to every 10 to 14 days.

Just looking for some general guidelines, as I'm assuming he is an average size for his age, as I just got him a month ago from a breeder.

    Thanks!

This schedule is fine. You can go to 10-14 days whenever really, but seems most people do once they get in the medium to large rat range. Everyone has their own opinions. I definitely think a conservative schedule is ultimately more healthy for the snake (to a point of course). I like to wait and make mine active(hunt) between meals. I have no scientific research but feel it is better for them. Yes I have "smaller" snakes for their age, but I am in no hurry and they are definitely not round and obese like many snakes you will see in captivity.
I would say your snake sounds right for age and size although this can be variable to a large degree. Some grow fast, some grow slow and as long as they are getting food they will be fine. I have a hypo that grew super fast to 4 feet on a very conservative random feed schedule and then slowed way down.

      Re: Feeding Frequency

You are on the right track, but like the other person said in their comment. You will have fast growth as well as slow growth with different snakes. Feeding once a week is good, some people i know will do every 3-5 days or 7-10 days or even 10-14 days. I don't think your feeding schedule is too often, to me its on point.

My neonates eat weekly, juveniles eat biweekly, and adults eat every 3 weeks.

It sounds good, anywhere they say this is the right rythm for a boa that age. I know I know, love makes people paranoid, me too... XD

ps: I didn't mean to offend of course, I was just trying to calm you down... I'm checking the terrain's Ph, I know well what paranoia is. ^^"
