[General Care] Males mind is elsewhere?

I have kept snakes for 15 or so years but only recently decided to try husbandry. This being my first year pairing, it has been equally awesome and nerve racking. Everything has been going well with all 6 pairs actively breeding and observed copulations for 5 of them. I'm very happy with how everything is going, however I have one male that has not eaten in 6 weeks (since introduction). My concern is if I separate them for a extended period (since I've heard they get distracted with pheromones in the air) he might not only miss his opportunity, this could also cause the female to only produce slugs (which I've heard has a much higher chance of complications). I don't want to jeopardize the health of either so any suggestions on what to do to insure the best results for both would be appreciated. Thanks.

I feed during breeding and then put the male back in rather quickly after feeding. Feed smaller prey and put him back in a day or 2.

I've tried smaller and keeping him out for about 2 days, however he still completely refuses to eat and looks like he is going crazy "running" around the feeding container looking for his girl.
