• [General Care] Camera in the cage?

    Hey guys and gals,

So with a recent visit to Verizon, I left with a free WiFi Camera that provides a live feed. Includes night vision (that works very well - tested).

I am thinking of setting this up in/out of my girls enclosure when she breeds to monitor her and make sure I capture the birthing.

Has anybody done anything like this before? If so, how did you go about it? I can easily mount it on the outside of the cage and get the video but it has a glare. I can mount this inside her cage but I am worries she is going to destroy it. She likes to pull on everything in her enclosure.

    * I am now back from Texas and will be posting a thread with some great pictures I got down there.

    Many thanks!
    Brandon

    Re: Camera in the cage?

I remember someone had a live fed camera for an anticipated litter back in the day when I first joined. It looks like their most recent post was a long time ago, but here's the thread: http://www.redtailboas.com/f18/live-...boa-cam-59784/

Cam doesn't work anymore obviously, but if I recall correctly it was positioned in the upper front corner of the cage, inside of the cage (the snake didn't seem to care about it being in the cage).

That probably isn't helpful at all. Sorry. lol

I love that idea. I really want to set something like that up myself. I use an RHP, and when she releases any type of excrement it fogs up in there, which has to be a major health hazard. Thus I always try to clean up immediately... I am sometimes not home, but nearby for a few days and it would be a useful tool, even if it were only used for poop monitoring.

I love the idea for breeding, birthing, and even just general watching. Mine sleep all day and play in the night. Unfortunately I sleep at night so I dont get to watch them frolic in their cages as much as Id like (plus its dark). Seems like an aweome idea.

I remember watching the live feed Jessica linked above, and it was super cool watching the whole thing go down in real time.

The way I would do it would be to go to Radio Shack or Amazon and get a project box (example below). You could mount the camera inside, drill a hole in the front for the camera, and one in the back for the wire(s) if necessary. Then mount the whole thing to the inside of the cage and it should be boa proof.

I remember that too! What fun it was. I think that Nate has a great idea with the 'boa proof' box. Let us know how it goes and I'm looking forward to the Texas pictures!

Excellent idea. I'm going to grab one of these this weekend and install. Thank you very much!

Once I get everything set up I will post up a link to all who wish to just take a gander at the snake(s). I'll most likely be moving it around from cage to cage.

I'll absolutely be using this to monitor pairing, birthing, and just overall an "eye in the sky" to ease my mind while away.
