[Purchasing] Dumeril's or Hog Island?

Hi everyone.
I've been looking into getting my first Boa Constrictor recently and I didn't really want a standard red tail because of their size. I did a lot of research into the smaller (4-7 foot) boas and have settled upon either a Dumeril's or Hog Island. Because they are both equally interesting and good tempered animals I am having a hard time choosing. Any help to make my decision easier would be appreciated!

Both of those boas can also grow to be larger than 7 feet though it is not common. People often quote the size of snakes by using what the boas size in the wild is. Captive born and bred boas often grow larger because they have a regular feeding schedule. You can't go wrong with either of these two though.

It depends on what you want! Don't worry about the size, if you get one as a baby and it gets used to you as it grows you will hardly notice the size...well, maybe you will but it won't be overwhelming.

i really like hog island males, they tend to be mellow , inquisitive and have some personality once they get used to handling, smaller too if fed correctly. they were all more enjoyable then any other type of boa I have dealt from a 'pet' perspective but that's just my personal experience.

Then I'd look into a male, regardless of your choice. Males will stay smaller than females.

Indeed. Get a male. No way to actually tell "adult size " but your choice either way will not dissapoint

I just got a Hog Island and he/she is beautiful and exotic.

I got all BCIs and 1 BP but my vote is for a Hog.

I believe the dums are more "ground dwellers" from what I've heard (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and are ambush predators.. Given taht, the hog will likely climb around more, so I guess it depends on if you want a more active boa or a less active one. I agree with the others that you might want to get a male of either as they stay leaner and smaller. Have you looked into Nicaraguans or the small terahumara (sp?) boas? Both of those stay smaller as well.
