  • [General Care] Bulge behind the vent?

My suriname has a slightly noticeable bulge... The bulge is after the vent (start of the tail) if you consider snake head as a front. It is under year old. Is it the hemipene? Can I see the vent-start of tail photo for your male boa (possibly suriname and young)?

That's where the hemipenes are located...I'm just guessing (& not seeing your snake!), but it could be an abscess/infection...possibly an issue with the substrate (what are you keeping him on?).

Anything "bulging" except for a rat in the stomach on a snake would make me worry. Does the snake pull away or seem in pain if you touch the area?

Can you post pics? They might help determine what's going on.

The pictures were already posted, but were still in moderation.

The picture post has now been approved and is visible as the second post in this thread.

I would venture to say that, unless the bulge size increases or begins to show signs of infection, it is simply the hemipenes and should be fine.
