Ok so this Is new to me as my old BCI girl hates water except to drink it. My new little girl I got went in her water bowl late last night around 11pm. Now at 11am this morning she is still in it. She does look a little dull in color but I have had her only since Tuesday. The Breeder told me she should be going into shed soon. I checked for mites and didn't see anything on her or in the water. Is it ok for her to soak for so long? She seems pretty content and will move around a little in the water like shifting positions and stuff. She has 2 hides, one on each side, ambient temps of 87F on the hot side and 80 on the cool side. She ate a fuzzy rat the 2nd day I had her. Is it normal for boas to soak for so long? Could she be getting rdy to shed?

Re: Boa soaking?
Make sure the hides are small enough--when she curls up inside she should be able to feel the walls touching her all the way around...Since she's new and has no mites I'm guessing it's a security thing...often the water bowl is the only object in the cage that gives them that nice, tight fit they're looking for...

Re: Boa soaking?
Ok so I inspected Vicky(baby sunglow) more today as she is still in her water bowl. I picked her up and she looked at me like "what are you doing!?" I noticed she was shedding but not like the usual way of from head down to tail. Her mid section had a loose layer of shed on her. I checked her eyes and they are clear. So my question is could she have had stuck shed? When I got her, she didn't go into blue or anything. The breeder mentioned something about shed when I talked to him on the phone. She looked wrinkly around the neck which led me to believe she was going into shed soon but like I said she didn't go through blue or anything. Should I just let her finish soaking on her own and see what comes off and then wait til her next shed cycle and then check everything? She seems fine and like I said, she ate a fuzzy rat Thursday which was 2 days after I got her(Tuesday).

Re: Boa soaking?
Well after some sleuth work, it turns out Vicky was shedding but it looks like she went into blue at the breeder and then just came out of blue when she was shipped so the stressed must have messed up her schedule thus why she was soaking for a day. Between her and I, we got her shed off with eye caps and tail end and now she happy, bright red and was relaxing on my hand. Now she is stretched out in her cage relaxing under the heat.
