What's up everyone?! I am saving up some $ for a cage upgrade from a 40 gal aquarium to a terrestrial cage by Animal Plastics. My 40 gal aquarium measures to be 3ft/36in long. I am currently looking at either the 36LX24DX12H and the 36LX24DX24H. It may seem like a silly question but I am wondering how crucial the height factor is or if that's just a personal preference? My Colombian red-tail is a little over 2 ft. long... Could I get some feedback regarding this?! Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you & hope everyone is having a great night! In other words: Would I be better off going with the taller or shorter height option?!

Re: Cage Upgrade... Animal Plastics?!
You may want to look at a 4'x2'x1' or larger. Might be a little more expensive up front but depending on the gender of the snake, you might not have to upgrade another time. If it is a female you may want to go for a 6'x2'x2' T20 Animal plastics cage. They are $440 base and around $620 with heatpad, locks, shelf, and shipping. That cage size would never have to be grown out of from my understanding. I currently have a 4'x2'x1' T8 Animal Plastics cage I bought for $250 with heatpad, lock, and shipping. It might get a bit cramped as a male gets older so I may have to upgrade.
Height is nice especially if you give it something to climb on. Ground space is more important.

You don't need much height, but that's an entirely personal choice. You can get an 18" high interior which would be a bare minimum in my book. You can go a little higher with a shelf and satisfy your boa's climbing instinct.
Either way, an AP T8 or a Boaphile Plastics 421D are solid options.

Re: Cage Upgrade... Animal Plastics?!
Here's a pic of mine. Maybe it'll help you decide. I have an 18" sitting on top of three 12" T-8 cages. Although she rarely climbs around on the branches I made her, it's pretty cool when she does.
One thing I don't love about the higher cage is the huge lip along the bottom. It' makes it harder to see her when she's laying out on the "ground."

Re: Cage Upgrade... Animal Plastics?!
Only thing I should add is that it might take a few months to get it depending on manufacture time. So depending on how long your baby gets in that time you might have to take her our a bunch to let her stretch out. That is the biggest problem I have with most the cage makers is that it takes so long to get the cages. I purchased my cage when they said it would be a quick ship and I got it in a month.

in my opinion, they can use the exercise options as captive animals.
