Hey all,
I wanted to post this tonight just incase someone might need the info.. If you have read the below thread you will see me asking for suggestions on helping thie one resuce with a very hard shed.. Well I took in a snake as a temp resuce. The owner will get him back. This little guy is only about 4 months old. Eats like a pig, but hasn't finished a shed in 3 months. Yet monthly he gets the blue eyes and nothing after that. This girl called me after talking with the folks at the local pet shop. So I stopped over at her house (this was last week) and I find a baby boa that looks to have three layers of shed on. It was getting so thick that this little guy made cracking sounds when he moved. The odd part is her setup is perfect. Right temps and humidity. So I tell her I want to take this guy home for a bit to help him out. As of tonight he is clean and all dead skin is off. I want to share what i did. Some of this advise comes from the forum members here that suggested these things to me..
First day here. He was soaked for 2 hours in a tempid bath. Just enough to submerge his body, not so deep he had to swim to stay afloat.
Second day here. Soaked for another hour and placed right in a small cloth bag with a damp wash cloth and placed in the mid part of the tank for 12 hours.
Third day removed from bag and put into a 30 min soak. The I work some loose skin off his head and under his jaw.
Forth day. Left his alone to bask and dry out.
Fifth day. Soaked again for an hour.. After the soak I encourged him to work his body through a paper towel held in my hand. I didn't hold it loose, but not tight either. just enough to make the paper towel cause some friction. At this point All skin is worked off except the last 2 inches of his tail.
Sixth day. Put alot of Natures Reptile Vita Spray on its tail and elft him alone for the rest of the day.
Seventh day. Soaked him for 30 mins and worked his tial through the paper towel and the last of his tail shed came right off.. I then sprayed from behind his head to his tail with the Vita spray and his is chilling out in his holding tank. He will be returned home tomorrow.
Vita Spray was suggested by Baracudda_41. It only cost 5 dollars a bottle here.
The bag trick was suggested By Red.
Don't give up if you have this problem. And try not to be too rough with the snake. I was lucky. Two snakes, two horrible sheds and not one bite..
Hope that helps someone..
Steve
