Has anyone ever tried to use Hypoaspis mites as a curative for mite problems. According to this website http://www.biconet.com/biocontrol/hypoaspis.html They say if you place about a tbsp of these in either a snake, lizard or tarantula cage. These mites will eat the other mites and then die off themselves when there are no more mite or mite eggs to eat. Has anyone ever tried that. Read the website, it's pretty interesting.

I was thinking NO, too, but I thought I'd get some opinions from some other people.

I know sombody that used them for the snake room... They said it worked good... but they still used provent-a-mite for the cages.... The mites ate all the bugs infact... they just attacked every thing... got the guys baby crix as well... Well I guess that is the price you pay...

          Hey Evil,

I helped someone with using these. They really worked great. just make sure your cage isn't treated with Provent a mite.. A good situation is if you have say T's and they have mite.. Can't use provent a mite with any bugs.. Cool thing, when these mits food sorce is gone they die.. Really worked well in this case..

I can understand anyone not wanting to put more bugs in their snakes tank, but it really is a good idea. You can't get more natural then adding a preditor to the little bugs that you want to get rid of.

But I can see both sides..

I would also suggest the prevent a mite. When I first purchased my bearded dragon he was covered in mites, what I did was take him out of his cage spray down his cage and substrate outside and then waited twenty minutes for all of it to clear out and put him back in and I have not seen a mite 1 since.

I never hear anyone in these forums discuss the use of Black Night for reptilian mite prevention. Fortunately, I have never dealt with mites - but Ive read quite a bit about them, and according to VPI and Pro Exotics; Black Night is the way to go. After hearing of mite horror stories and how difficult it is to remove them , I plan on buying a bottle of the stuff just for any future occasions.

That was some very interesting info. Although, Im not a bug fan of bugs on top of bugs and eating bugs...it take alot for me to even have the crix there a pain in the you know what. I still think the number 1 best way to kill mites is proventamite..Hands down ;D
