  • [Defecation] Snake isnt Defecating

    Hello.

Well its been lil over 2 months since my boa defecated. is this a reason for concern? also how long does it usually take for the snake to shed after the eyes changed from the greyish to normal?

    Re: Snake isnt Defecating

A boa usually sheds with in a week or so after the eyes clear back up. As far as defecation goes 2 months is quite a while but depending on how old the snake is, how often and what size food you are feeding. This may not be a big concern. More information is needed for us to help further.

the snake is around 1 1/2 years old. i feed em weekly giving him prey no bigger then the thickest part of his body. F/T mice.

Warm water soaks in the bath tub can help, the animal"go" but my first question would be what are your temps? If they are to low the snake may not be able to metabolize it's last meal, or (depending on substrates) it may just be really well hidden feces. Just some thoughts

i temps in the surrounding area is 80ish. though in their cages i have temperature adjustable heat rocks. Not the kind that would burn the animal.

whats the humidity because if its to dry its makes it hard for them to poop maybe try to soak him and he will probably poop when you soak him!

When he does poop, you will think a german shepard broke into the cage and left a present.

I've never heard of a heat rock that wouldn't burn an animal. Any heating device should be connected to a reputable thermostat like a Ranco or similar. What size mice? At 1 1/2 years old I would think that animal should be well onto rats by now. Be sure you have a thermal gradient from low 80s to 90-92 degrees for appropriate digestion and thermoregulation on the snake's part. I agree with soaking the snake to get things moving. The water you use shouldn't even really feel warm or cool because you want it about the same temperature of the cage which is about what your skin temperature is. Also be sure to get the snake moving. Just being active can move things along quite well. If you haven't, please checkout the Ultimate Care Guide as I'm sensing that you may have some husbandry issues to correct too.
