Re: Need to chat about ri emergency
Just my opinion, and I'm no expert but I have dealt with RI's before. ~~Once you have bubbles it's too late, you need to take him/her to the vet and they will give you some shots to administer at home after they show you how. The heat is an automatic and it may fix the whole RI issue over time but it's no quick fix and it could also be to late to simply turn the heat up to get rid of it. Get the shots, it's cheap if you ask me. I'm sure you have searched the boards on the issue. Good luck I know it sucks.

Re: Need to chat about ri emergency
I tried to IM earlier, but you need 85* -90* on the cool side to raise Boas metabolism
Plus raise your humidity to at least 75%
You need to give this Boa medication, you can try Tylosin (Be certain you purchase Tylin/Tylosin 200) if it doesn't work no harm done
At that point you need a Vet forsure to prescribe medication.
I forget your whole story whether you've been to see a Vet or not
Really your best bet is a Herp Vet who will prescribe proper I.V. (injected) meds

Re: Need to chat about ri emergency
Yeah, it's time for the vet. When they have bubbles they are quite sick. This is beyond what you should try to treat at home and could quickly become pneumonia. Lar covered everything to do. I will say though if you are having trouble deciding if an RI should be treated or not you probably shouldn't attempt to use tylosin on your own. I know people like it, but it is an antibiotic and you have to know what you are doing. If you use it and it doesn't work you have now furthered antibiotic resistance in the population of bacteria exposed. It's downright scary how much resistance we see at work in the various animals we culture... I can't even imagine what things will be like 10 years from now.
Lar, I rarely see any vets do IV (intravenous) injections in boas with the exception of some anesthetics. Have you had vets start medications off IV to get on board faster with RIs? I just always see antibiotics go IM (intramuscular) since boas can have such "finicky" tail veins.

You are absolutely right Joley on all accounts
I don't know why I called it I.V. its a muscle injection
I had my head up my ___________ on that one ,ha, ha
I agree this is a case for the Herp Vet !!!

Re: Need to chat about ri emergency
No prob! We use a lot of IV Baytril with cats and dogs for bad infections so I wasn't sure if maybe you'd come across vets doing this with boas much; it sure sounds good in theory I tihnk just hard to do in practice.

How'd it go with the vet today? I don't think you need to worry about spreading it too much, but be hygeinic. If you handle the sick one make sure you wash super well before handling the well ones.

However when in doubt never hesitate to take it to the vet.:
