  • Mite Alert!!

Okay everyone here's the word on a hott alert from the Vet. With all of the mild temps and extra rain we've been getting you should all start treating your enclosures with the Provent-A-Mite. We are forcast to have an exceptionally bad mite problem this year, so be carefull with the types of bedding you use and keep them enclosures clean. I am working on a new mite formula that is all natural from a recipe similiar to what the Philadelphia Zoo uses. You can spray it directly on the reptile and even on mice that the reptiles eat.
    I'll keep you posted. 8)

      Re: Mite Alert!!

      Hi,
is this a dilution of Liquid Sevin or some type of pyrithium?
this sounds really like a great idea,
I was at the petstore the other day and all the snakes there are infested with mites big time. They had at least eight adult boa's a couple were what I considered high quality color morphs. More bring backs if I only had a couple more big cages..

Thats it for me I am not taking my boa's out of the house period..
One of the employes ran his hand down the skin of the boa and came away with a few dozen.. You can't see them on Boa's very well...
       GEEZEEE
        Doug
time to order a couple cans of provent-a- mite
unless we can squeeze this new fomula from TC.. hehe
      hint hint hint

        Re: Mite Alert!!

After I get it right and have it tested by the zoo I'll make it available to people through my website. I first must have it tested and patent it. 8)

Better be ready to wait, I heard patents take quite awhile to pass, I thought of treating my rats for mites, but it didn't seem logical, don't rats- like monkeys clean themselves and one another of any bugs? It seems like thats what mine are doing. -sTEVE

              Re:Mite Alert!!

              O joy, more good news.

I have only had one time not too long ago when mites got on to my nonrescue pets and it was no fun.. Since then I now spray all my bedding litter down with Provent-a-mite. Worth its weight in gold if it keeps it from happening again..

              Thanks for the info
              Steve

                  Re:Mite Alert!!

I can definitely second that warning, mine showed up last week. I wondered what go splashed on the top of the tank. Wellll, my daughter saw the splashes move! Let the fun begin!! Luckily, they didn't spread to the snakes only poor little sweet face (the rat).

                    Hi,
PSPS remember some reptile experts belive mites help spread IBD, so please isolate any new animal at least four months and treat his cage .. I have a friend who's big in boa's who lost an albino boa 1 y/o to IBD it took 6 mos for it to finally become ill and waste away he was terrified his collection of boa's may be infected and incubationg the disease his new boa may have came with the disease..
be safe don't adopt a sick snake unless you can isloate the animal in another room... I ve stopped adding animals to my collection unless it comes from a breeder I trust. I know at least one.. hehe
                    DOug :P

                      Re:Mite Alert!!

Another very worth while product that I and everyone around here that I deal with uses, and believe it or not, can be found in most pet stores or on the net, would be Repti-Relief. This stuff is flat amazing. We use it on all of our new comers, and if they have mites (which has only happened once- bought from an individual), you can literally watch them fall off. We have never seen an adverse reaction. We monthly spray all the cages and the room. We also spray down all the bedding when it purchased, and before we put it in the cages. We have also sprayed down the mice and rats(the balls refuse to eat f/t) when we had to get some from a pet store.
We love and highly recommend this product.
