  • Help with a new rescue.

I ran into a HUGE red tail boa, and it was kept in a plastic storage tote. I took it home to an inclosure more its size, but now it has developed a nasty spot on the nose. It isn't a rub spot, and I don't think it is an abcess because it is dry and was so from the begining. My normal vet won't see it because of her size! Is there anything I can do for it now? I can't find a herp. vet to see her either, I am in an awful position. I took it because I knew she was in horrible shape, but I didn't know I would do this.

    Please help me!

???I dont know what to tell you other than have you tried cleaning it with a q-tip diped in peroxide, then afterwards use a triple antibiotic ointment, try that once a day for few days see if that helps to start healing it.. ??? :-/

Make sure that the stuff you use doesn't have any pain killer in it! Good luck let us know how things turn out.

Last night I cleaned her nose with peroxide on a q-tip, today I did the same and a piece of her skin came off, scales and all. What have I done to her????? I put poly. on it (no pain med in it), but it is bleeding periodically. :'(

??? All i can say is maybe there was some kind of infection going on under the scales and the peroxide helped to lift some of the infection out of the sore, more than likely that was just dead tissue that came off. keep putting the antibiotic ointment on it. Dont use no more peroxide as it has already done its job..I dont know about what anyone else would sugest, maybe clean it out with Betadine, I cant belive theres no vets that will see your snake.. ???

                HI,
I saw something similar in a burme that was checking out the light in his cage. He smoked his nose and acted like it didn't hurt one bit, I don't think reptiles can feel pain from heat.
Keep it clean and dry , have you looked for a reptile vet on that reptile vet forum.[ftp]http://www.herpvetconnection.com/[/ftp]

Actually doug I think they can feel pain from heat it's just that the nerves are alot deeper in the tissue so it takes longer for the heat to start feeling painful.
