Lori, I e-mailed you a while ago but never got a reply..You remember my Boa Ren that isn't eating(since Dec)Well, at 6 foot long he's 2 pds and loseing.I tub feed every other day and he poops it out the next day.I went and got some high calorie dog food that the vet gives and will try him on that next. He's in a shed but I don't even know if he has the strenght to shed. I soak him daily to get his Metabolizm moven but I just don't think he'll make it.. This is driven me CRAZY all I can do is cry :'( :'( :'( :'(

There is a time for force feeding.. I think you may have arived at that point... I have herd that tube feeding is not the way to do the feeding by force thing... Since I have never forced a snake to eat I don't know any tricks of the trade so to speak... But this is how I have herd it done...
open the snakes mouth with a small wooden dowl place the rat in the snakes mouth as far back as possible then slide the stick out the side of the mouth and let the lil' guy swallow....
Please don't take my word for it make sure this is good advise before using it... I think if you IM clay he will get to you perty darn fast...

I did the force feeding first. I was doing that for probably 2 months almost every other day a small "pinky rat- no hair" can't remember what they call it atm. Then i went to tube feeding a mixture of Baby food chicken,egg,karo syrup and water. Now gonna try the high protein dogfood..

Shy.. Thought that was an email on a burm that wasn't doing good.. or maybe that was someone else. Was the email in the last few weeks time or when ? Anyways..
UGH.. He does not look to great at all in this pic .. Is this the one that was not feeding and had the worms like last year that was treated for such etc ? Or is this another one now ?
Dog food.. I never reccomend using that for tubing into a snake at all myself due to most of em having the red dye stuff in em..UGH. What have you been tubing this guy every other day though so far ? Is it something that has high protein and calorie content etc in it or what ?
What about vet visit.. any fecals done or other lab work at all on him ? What are results if ya did ?
How long have ya been tubing him also ? Sounds like he needs something with more content to it or there's really something major going on with him that he is passing it through so fast now. arghh.

I have been look'in for this site that show's how to tube a pinky mouse... I can't find it... I would say try to do this if tube feeding is working then try to get some rodent in to him... I don't know how they did it though... May-be a blender... yuck... Well I will try some more...

Ok ya posted as I did just now. Gotta move onto something different in what is being tubed to him I think also. That is too much liquid basically and not enough of what he really needs actually. This is basically what we use for tubing these types when needed...
4 oz pediasure
4-6 oz plain yogurt
4 oz electrolyte [ gatorade/pedialyte/gerber infant elecrolyte]
for this type thing going on also add like a tablespoon of the jump start to the mix too.
Try that and see if he is able to "keep" more of it inside rather than passing it on through him.

It was an e-mail before the burm.. No biggy yup same boa! the dog food is caned Eukanuba Vet Diets Maximum-Calorie the ingredients doesn't say red die though? Fecals have been Neg.

DUH forgot this part..
Keep refrigerated and warm up what your using prior to feed/tube each time also.
For this size snake ..basically tube appx 50cc 2-3 times per day also.

UGH.. I am out of it tonite really I think.. Another duh.. I forgot one of the ingredients also in that mix..
add an egg to it also. [ I sent ya an email to let ya know Dawn and also tried calling ya back too on it]

Well i got home tonight and Ren is gone :'( :'( :'( Dang Dang Dang.. I am bringing him to the vet though for an autopsy.. Thanks for everyones help..
