  • Regurgition ???

I have never had any snake regurg for me yet , in 5years and if I can prevent it Iam going to do everything I can,
Ijust witnessed my adult male , in what I assume was an attempt to regurge .
Here's the facts; he is aprox. 4 yrs.of age
                               he ate about 24hrs ago
he has been a good eater
his hot side temp got too high today
                               about 95
I saw him "wretching" as if to try to regurge
                               his hummidity is 40-60%
    Any suggestions are welcome .

Also he has not actually regurgitated yet (I hope he doesn't). I hope this is just me worrying too much.
If anyone has seen this behavior
before , I would like to hear your
                   solutions.

                             Thanks for any help
                                 Dan

    Re: Regurgition

Sorry, couldn't tell ya.. I have never seen any of my snakes regurge actually. Anytime I have had a regurge in the past.. I found it by scent..never the sight. Ya can sort of smell em MAJOR prior to seeing em..YUCK.
Had your snake taken a drink previous to doing that do you know ? If so, it could have drank too much and that's what it was all about. Some snakes will at times when they drink too much, regurge the water afterwards.
Either way, just watch him closely for a bit and make sure that there is actually not anything going on that ya need to worry about at all.

      Re: Regurgition

      Lori,

Thanks for the reply. As for him drinking prior to what I saw ,no. Since it's been almost a day. So I would think that if he hasn't regurged yet he probably won't.
It was just something I've never seen before.I thought maybe you or Clay had ,I didn't know if it might be a symptom of something more serious.
If anyone hear of this has heard of this behavior before ,please let me know .

      Thanks
      Later

        Re: Regurgition ???

        Lori,
This is driving my nuts. He did it again . The one thing I did notice is that he was on the warm side(90) both times that he has made this "wretching" noise . I haven't seen any signs of an R.I.
Do you think it could have been a bad rat , I just started using a different supplier . This was his second feeding on the new batch . Although none of our other snakes are showing any effects from them.
Anyway just something that's starting to worry me.

If anybody has seen this before , Please let me know .

        Thanks
        Later ,
        Dan

          Re: Regurgition ???

Sorry..I am at a loss as to what is going on exactly with the snake. You say that he has not regurged though right ? He has only done this since you switched the supplier of your prey also ? That could possibly be what is cauing it. Maybe just purchase his prey from a different source for the next feeding and see if that makes a difference for him. If he doesn't do this after you feed prey from a different supplier, then that would be most likely what was causing it. Hit the pet store and buy one from there. I wouldn't go ordering a ton more food from ol till your sure about it if I were you. YES, The change in the supplier could just affect this one snake also. If that is what it is..might be what they are feeding the rodents or just about anything even that causing this to happen.

            Re: Regurgition ???

            Thanks ,
I'll try that on the next feed. Whatever it is that he's doing it doesn't seem to be effecting him in any other way.
            time will tell .
            Thanks again ,

                Re: Regurgition ???

                Lori ,
"Fred" is doing Ok for the most part.We had a small prob. the other day, a propane leak in the house . I am watching all the reptiles closely as I have no idea what effect it may have had on them. So far so good.
As for the strange actions of Fred I think it only happens when he takes a drink in the evening. Strange ,huh ? It's almost like hiccups or something.
I am worried that it could be RI or something because he has been almost stargazing after I mist the cage ,and the hum. is above 45 or 50% . The only problem is the nearest herp vet is an hour away in St.Louis . but I will find out this week.

                thanks for the replies
                hope you feel better

                  Re: Regurgition ???

It could just be the drinking thing going on.. That would be a good thing I think..if that what it is going on with him. Rather than other stuff it could turn out to be.
HMM.. He might just be enjoying the humidity/mist when you do that is all. Just holding his head on high and enjoying it is all. ;D
