  • My Boa, "Googy" has "rare" disease....help me!

first of all....there is a pic attcht somewere my snake Googy I am not taking this well of my Boa Constrictor, Googy having this "rare"' disease.
NO ONE knows much about it! The vet says it's something he's had for a long time and it's just presenting itself now and without some kind of operation ,....his prognosis is poor.
Gosh, i don't want to lose this snake! I really , really don't. I will do everything in my power to keep him around...unless he's just suffering too much.
Googy's eyes are filled with a thick, light yellowish substance and it's infected. Sometimes the substance puffs up the front sides of his face causing it to overlap the bottom of his mouth. I have to drain both sides once a week or else his face would be huge! Gosh, is there anything i can do?
The vet gave me Batryl and i administered what was reccomended but he hasn't recovered. his eyes hava little bit of blood in them too. he can't see but he actually seems to be in ok spirits other than lack of vision and losing weight. Speaking of...I don't like seeing that at all....he won't eat. perhaps it's because he can't see or/and also because of his mouth.
i love that snake so much. i give him as much personal attention that i can every day. i sit with him while i read, i talk to him, i pet him and everything. i want his quality of life to be the best until the end. The thing is...i don't WANT the end! i knw i have to be the adult i am and face what i may have to face but i'm wondering if maybe ANYONE has seen this or might know SOMETHING about it.
    i'm so sad......
    i love you 'Googsters' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      HI,
I haven’t seen this problem before but I would ask the vet about a treatment with tylan. This has been used in the past for really resistant infection. I hope this helps.
The RI post about resistant respiratory infection (RI) above even gives specific dosages per weight.

He's actually ok. He just gets a tad upset when I touch his face because he thinks it's "face draining day'. I hate to drain the stuff but if i didn't ...he'd puff up to 3 times that size.
He's doing ok with me. he'll sit n my lap while i read a book.
          i sure love him.

Tylan huh....i'll ask the vet. i'll pay the price to help Googy. If it's expensive.....so what....if it helps my deserving snake then I'll get it for him. thanks again for taking time to reply with some help

              AWW :'( ???

I myself haven't seen such a thing in a boa as yet. Hoepe I never do also. BUT I do know of someone who had/has a snake that had MAJOR infections going on with the eyes chronically. I'll try to conatct them and see what it was that was able to help the snake medically for what was going on. Maybe that can help you in this snake's tx regime. I'll let you know once I track the info down np.

                Thanks Lori.
I know......the vet said it's a rare thing too. I don't expect a lot of people to really recognize this.
He won't eat though and losing weight.
THAT'S what worries me the most at this point though. He's losing more and more weight. If I could just get him to eat something. I have sent liquid food through a tube to keep him going but it will never replace a rodent that's for sure.

Anyway, I appreciate the responses. I know the reality is that I may lose him. I just hope I don't. I love him so much.

:-*THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO REPLIED ABOUT GOOGY.  HE ISN'T BETTER OR WORSE EITHER. HE IS AMAZING AS HE IS STILL IN GOOD SPIRITS WITH ALL OF THIS.  HE STILL WANTS TO EXPLORE THE ROOM EVEN THOUGH HIS EYES ARE DAMAGED.  I'M ASSUMING THERE'S NO PAIN IN HIS EYES.  SURE HOPE NOT. I WORRY ABOUT THAT.  GOOGSTERS DOESN'T HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH I LOVE HIM.  I WISH HE KNEW.  AGAIN, THANKS TO THE NICEST PEOPLE AND THIS IS THE MOST DESCENT WEBSITE IV'E VISITED AS FAR AS SNAKES AND I FEEL WELCOME.
