  • BUGS? BUT NOT MITES?

i noticed some bugs in my boas tank. They are definetely not mites, i know what mites look like. could this be from the humidity and the repti bark. I am going to clean every inch of the tank. they were small very tiny and crawling sot of grey in color. feel free to email

They might be mites that live in/on wood.

Personly I HATE repti bark and I am shure thats where your bugs are coming from. I would suggest that you use a diff. substrate.

I use astro-turff. You can get it at a store like Lowes. You cut a couple pieces so you have a clean one for when the Boa goes to the bathroom on the other.

Aspen bark works great for my snakes, its light in color so if you do get mites you can see them easily, and its good for burrowing snakes. And also it makes it easy to clean up snakes droppings!

I know it's been a while since this was posted, but I have to admit that I haven't been on the forums in a while. cwm25.gif

I also had this same problem a few weeks ago. I had just moved into my new place, and decided to get fresh ReptiBark for my girl. Well, it had to be a week afterwards that I noticed these little white/grey tiny bugs on the side of the tank on the warm side. When I started looking closer, they were everywhere. (Reason I started to check things out was due to my girl sleeping on her side...it was odd).

I went to the store, bought that Mite Rid stuff (can't remember exactly was it was...and don't want to go look ) took her out, sprayed down everything (including the bark, but not the water bowl) and gave her a long warm bath with a little anti-bacterial soap in it. (She loved the bubbles)

After everything dried out, got it all back to "normal" and it's been great since. I still check to make sure it's all gone and clear. She's not sleeping on her side anymore and we're in the green.

The dude at the pet store told me to use that Mite spray once a month or so, just to take preventative caution for the future. I'll take his advice.

Hope this helps with solving the issue. I'm sure it was something in the bark that we both had to deal with.
