  • [Behavior] tail-wagging

My boa is healthy, and shows no signs of any stress or illnesses, but tonight I was looking at her and realized she was not so much wagging her tail, but slowly swaying it back and forth. Was just wondering if this was a sign of anything wrong with her or just something snakes do? Never noticed it before.

Glad you figured it out but my female does this when it gets close to breeding season. kind of similar to her going to the bar in skimpy clothes....

They also tail wag also called caudal luring as a way to lure prey to them or deter a perceived threat. It makes the would be attacker think the tail is actually the head and attack that instead. My big girl used to do that as a baby and my baby sunglow does it sometimes too but most of the time she plays ninja snake buried under her aspen with just her face poking up at the front of the cage.

Yes...I wasn't sure how many boids do that but I know some other snakes use that technique. Pretty sneaky, lol!
