  • [Defecation] Orange powdery poop

Asking for an acquaintance: has anyone ever seen any poop like this? Some info: it's a 2-3 year old 0.1 hypo boa, never bred, has normal looking eurates in addition to the powder. Post-powder poop, the boa usually goes into shed. The owner of the boa said she thinks it could be linked to ovulation. Thoughts? Thanks!

I've never seen that before. It looks like sand. Or rust...

You sure you didn't pour cinnamon in cage? lol

In all seriousness though, I have never seen anything like that either, and never read anything about urates being that color and texture.

I can remember seeing some orange powdery urates before* (none of my current snakes) but I cannot tell you what it means, or even if it's significant. If this snake seems healthy otherwise, I'd just keep a watch on.
*only a small amount though, not the entire urate pile.

Are they sure that's poop and not just wood mites or some sort of bug in the decorations making a mess?

Good thought! I use real branches in my cages & have found some with beetles boring thru them, dropping some wood powder here & there.

Agree, good idea. I haven't thought of this either.

That doesn't look like poop to me and you really had me going with that first photo. LOL

I think maybe it's something in the decorations making that powder as well. I'd say remove them asap.
