Re: Question About Reptile Laws In OH!!
Ohio Department of Agriculture | Ohio Dangerous Wild Animal Act
That should help. We went through the ringer a couple of years ago with SB310 and actually did pretty well, all things considered.

Re: Question About Reptile Laws In OH!!
The important things to note here are:
1. It's limited to the following species, and only if they're over 12 feet long (boas didn't make the list):
(a) Green anacondas;(b) Yellow anacondas;(c) Reticulated pythons;(d) Indian pythons;(e) Burmese pythons;(f) North African rock pythons;(g) South African rock pythons;(h) Amethystine pythons
2. If you have any of the above, you need to obtain a permit. There are different levels for possession vs propagation. There's a bit of initial paperwork, then an annual fee.
3. This one is important. The original verbiage said caging had to follow the Zoological Association of America's standards. That didn't make sense for a couple of reasons. For one, they're standards meant for zoo displays, not home collections. For instance it said at one point that a python cage had to be 6 feet tall and be constructed of steel reinforced concrete. The second reason is that it's a moving target. The ZAA is an independent organization that can change its rules at any time if it wants to, so it could make it hard to stay in compliance. Thanks to the hard work of some notable snake people, they updated the rules so that there's a specific set of standards. Here's the new verbiage under Sec 935.12.
4. Keeping hots isn't really worth the hassle.
