Can mites slow the growth of young snakes?

    Re: mite question

When I brought mine home, I found mites on her. It didn't seem to have a negative impact on growth at all. She's grown like a weed.

I wouldn't say slows the growth, but mites do take alot out of a snake ecspecially a young one. Alot of stress for sure, on the snake and the owner.

It wont hinder there growth. they might be a little anemic if the mite infestation is severe when you brought her home. Depending on how long she had them at the pet shop or breeder. Mites have been very easy for me to take care of with PAM or a substitute for PAM, within 2-3 days the mites are gone and its never come back...

The main way it would slow the growth by an inch or two is if the infestation is severe enough to cause them to go off feed for a month or two...due to discomfort..

          (Edit)
what I wrote is based on the assumption that the infestation would be tended to. Of course if not tended too It would kill the snake...

I'm gonna have to say it could hinder growth and even cause death

If a Boa is extremely infested it could die

A young Boa with many mites will be stressed and

might even be loosing blood in a way that could affect proper
            nutritional support to grow properly.

I believe you'd have to have a pretty bad mite problem over a long period though
