[Treatment] Does vaseline work for mites?

My friend told me vaseline would kill mites? He used it on corn snakes. Can it harm my snakes if I were to use it?

I wouldn't use Vaseline on a boa. Anything petroleum based is not good for snakes!

Exactly as Jeff said. Anything oil-based, even vegetable oil, can cause sloughing of the scales and at the very least shedding problems. Always best to stay away from oils with snakes. Check out the sticky on the Mites Forum for some good information on how to get rid of them. It's a pretty common topic here so you should be able to gather a wealth of information.
