I was told a couple drops in water and let them soak in it for a while then use rid on the tank. Does that work ?

Re: betadine
I've never heard of using Betadine for mites?...your question isn't very clear, but since you mentioned Rid, I am assuming you are talking about killing mites.
What I HAVE used safely for killing many/most (but not all*) mites is to soak your snake in mildly warm water with several drops of Dawn or Ivory dishsoap mixed in; the reason this works is that the soap keeps the mites
from breathing, so they drown. *BUT: do not drown your snake in the process....some mites may survive on the snake's head, around the eyes, nostrils, chin. Soak the snake for at least 30 minutes, 45-60 is best. (water
will probably need a "warm up") Do NOT leave snake alone in this soapy water...do NOT let them drink it, it will play havoc on their stomach/digestion. Water should be shallow, only slightly deeper than the height of the
snake's body. Those plastic 'critter cottages' with ventilated tops work well for this...just big enough for the snake to fit in, curled up. But do not leave them alone...

Re: betadine
Rid of NiX diluted in water also works well. One container of the solution mixed into a gallon of water is best. Soak the snake for a half hour or more in the solution and thoroughly clean the enclosure and all the "furniture" in it. You will need to repeat this process up to six weeks to make sure the mites are gone. Another solution that in use to treat my cages as a preventative is Permectrin 2 and water. This is a much stronger solution but is safe if mixed properly. I use this every time I clean my cages and racks.

Re: betadine
Great advice guys, also to add, if you have other snakes please separate them. Because you don't want mites to spread thru your collection. Because mites travel to reach a new host to plant there eggs. Also if you have wood please boil the wood in hot water because it can be wood mites on your snake.sigpicJrock23

If the mites didn't die and your solution was such that it affected the color of your snake, I think you can cross that off as a remedy. Soap WILL drown mites & not change the color of your snake, though I hope it helps wash
off the betadine effect.

Re: betadine
Im going to try the soap and clean whats in his tank as well. I didnt know that it helped with his mouth though. I'll remember that. I plan on a convention soon and getting more info through books or online. Its easier to learn through others experience and knowledge though.

Re: betadine
I was told by a very well known breeder to use permethrin 10%, you can get it at tractor supply or any farm store. You dilute it 1/4 Oz to a gallon of water. Add to spray bottle and spray the snake and cage, take the water out of course. No need to rinse. I bought my big female November 16th. She was infested. A friend sent a bottle of that reptile spray and it was gone in two treatments and she still had mites. I used what was suggested and they were gone in a day or so. The permethrin kills the mites, eggs, everything. And it's perfectly safe for the snake.

Re: betadine
It must be the 10% not 100%. If you use proventamite you spray the substrate ONLY and let it air out and dry for at least 30 minutes or else you will poison the snake. Many people use proventamite wrong even though the directions are written clearly on the bottle.

Species such as natrix natrix reportedly will die quickly if exposed to it even used "correctly". Personally I would never spray permethrin directly onto any snake, wiping with Reptile Spray can provide on-critter relief, the permethrin is supposed to kill the mites during the off-snake parts of the life cycle.

Re: betadine
Alright. As of now he doesnt have any but I will remember all of this for later on. I plan on doing it before changing the substrate. I just found out that ecoearth isnt that good especially with heating pads. But I plan on doing it soon just in case
