I've used permethrin in my ball python enclosures with no problems.

Species such as natrix natrix reportedly will die quickly if exposed to it even used "correctly". Personally I would never spray permethrin directly onto any snake, wiping with Reptile Spray can provide on-critter relief, the permethrin is supposed to kill the mites during the off-snake parts of the life cycle.
Seems like no body read anything I said. It is 1/4 Oz of permethrin 10% dilute in a gallon of water. At that dilution it's harmless to the snake and still kills the mites. I didn't say go spray proventamite on a snake. I've been told hog nose can't handle the permethrin. but the breeder that told me is a boa breeder, and used it for his boas whenever mites became present, I used it on my big girl and she's perfectly healthy. That reptile relief may work for small boas and enclosures but two treatments with that and the bottle was gone and she still had mites.

      Re: betadine

I know this is an old subject. However has anyone else used permethrin 10? If so what were your results. It seems to me to have the same ingredient that provent a mite has. So my guess is you should be able to dilute it like someone in this thread has. I should be able to use it like PAM to spray down the enclosure using the same directions as used with PAM. What do you think?

You're not helping with my grasp on time. I looked and it said 01-03 and I was thinking "This isn't old..."
On topic, yeah permethrin works. Many people use it. Don't spray it on any animal you don't wish to kill and you shouldn't have too many issues when following instructions. Keep it away from food for humans and pets. I use PAM because my local herp society has the most experience with it and that is what they swear by.

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you time does fly by. It's funny how the dates of the post almost match up. However the years are so far apart.

I've used it. I mix 3 milliliters in 2 liters of clean water, which is close enough for government work to the 1/4 oz (7.5 millilters) per gallon (4 liters) mentioned above. That is strong enough to be effective against mites while remaining relatively safe for your snake.

I do not apply the diluted P10 solution directly to the snakes. I use it in a spray bottle like you would use PAM to treat the enclosure, hides, and paper substrate. I keep a supply of treated and dried paper handy so when the snake makes a mess I can quickly change out the soiled paper for clean, treated paper.

I use Reptile Spray on infested snakes by spraying a paper towel and then wiping the snake with it. Reptile Spray is not an insecticide, it is a solution of salts that kills mites by dehydrating them. It also hurts like the blazes in an open wound.
