Yes, either one should be fine- and the snakes face should be kept out of the water, but you could gently wipe with the solution on a bit of cloth or paper towel. Do this at the end of the bath, to catch any that
    migrated to "high ground".

Re: Mites on tiny baby boa

Just to update, I soaked her last night in water with a bar of Ivory soap "dragged" through it (kind of like how we sprinkled pepper over the surface of water in a bowl and then dipped in a bar of soap to break the surface tension which caused all the pepper go flying away from the soap -- this is what passed for entertainment back in the Dark Ages when I was a child), and there was good news and bad news. The good news: this removed several mites in varying stages of growth from my little snake. The bad news: this removed several mites in varying stages of growth from my little snake :/

On the plus side, there were only dead mites in her enclosure, none living. So I'm going to take that as a win. I may give her tonight off, then soak her tomorrow when I get home from work. I don't want to stress her. Of course, having mites is stressful in and of itself... oish. Yes, I second-guess myself a lot.

It's totally safe to soap her up a little with the ivory...not like a "bubble bath" but it sounds as if you're afraid to use the soap? I'd do more than just "drag the bar thru the water", not sure you used enough?
Anyway, I'm glad you got rid of some mites, now get the rest. (just make sure you rinse her well, obviously)

I swished it around a bit -- I just didn't lather it up The water was slightly clouded, but not sudsy.

Yeah, you let me know how that works out for you. LOL

Keep up the good work, it sounds like you are getting a hold of the mite problem.

Yeah, yeah... Although truthfully, we won't be adding anyone new for awhile because Rose will be in quarantine for quite a bit and I don't have room for anyone else. I mean, I have room... there's another quarantine enclosure and I do have one more drawer in my 3-drawer rack, but at the moment it ain't happening LOL

Personally I use permethrin 10% diluted in water. 1/4 oz to one gallon distilled water, take the water dish out for 24 hours after you spray, I've used it on all size boas and ball pythons and works wonderfully. Kills mites and eggs very quickly without harming your snakes, use too much though and it can harm them, or if you leave the water in etc. Water has to be removed but you can spray snake and cage. Even used it on a gravid boa when I got mites from a friend and didn't harm her or the babies
