  • Boaphile question

I recently purchased a boaphile. It has a flex watt. It won't go above 82 on the warm side, and the cool side is 72. The flex watt dosn't seem to be able to bring the temps up very well. What should I do?

    Re: Boaphile question

What are you using to test the temperatures. Also where are you testing your temps. If your ambient temps in the room are low enough that the ambient is 72 then most likely the room is too cold and the flexwatt alone will not keep the cage warm enough.

What are the ambient temps in your room? Maybe we can help you - but if you want advice from the expert, call Jeff during the week during the day. He has all the answers.

Yes. Call Jeff during the day and have your infrared temp gun handy or a good thermometer. You will need it. THere are numerous things to walk through, but figure it out, we will.

My ambient air in the room is 72, same as the tanks ambient. I am using a digital thermometer I got from wall mart, it test the in and out. I keep all my snakes in my bedroom, I have 6 tanks. I usaully keep my house at 72. I use zoo med heat pads on all my other tanks. Could I hook a zoo med to my boaphile?

O and I don't have any substrate in the tank yet, and I am just placing the temp probe on the floor of the tank on the warm side.

The pedestal seems like a waste of money, Its crazy expensive for what it is.

There are additional Canada FedEx Ground Fees. THere is a Canadian Brokerage fee. There is also the the Canadian 5% GST and whatever additional taxes your Province happens to charge. All those fees were in the amounts detailed above by Shogun678.

You can, if you dare, call Jeff during the daytime and he will look up your charges for you. It can be vastly different for people in different areas. Vastly different. I have shipped a 421D to some Canadians that have only cost them an additional $50. Others it has cost well over $100. It all depends on where you are.

Today I had 33 calls come in. I was polite and curteous to each of those callers. I didn't bite any of them and was able to ask every question put to me. Several of the calls saved me from a back and forth series of calls about heat related issues that could easily run 7 or 8 emails deep if they didn't call.

Many will attest, it is a complicated process working through temperature issues. Some companies avoid all that by either not installing heat at all leaving that to you or installing heat that is WAY WAY WAY more powerful that needed and places your animals and YOU at risk. We don't do that. We set you up with low wattage solutions that will work in your situation. But it really can't be done through email like it can over the phone.

                          Sample call:

Hi Boaphile I have a 421D cage and I am having trouble getting the temperature high enough in it. Do you have any ideas?

                          My first question is;

                          What is your room temperature?

How are you measuring that temperature?
                          With a temp gun?
                          Thermometer?
                          What kind of thermometer?
Where in the room do you measure that temperature?
                          On the floor?
                          The wall?
The wall where the cage is at or a different wall?

These are all possible questions and follow up questions to the first and most important question for me to have an answer to. The answer to the first question will direct me what question to ask next. That next answer will help me know what to ask next. I don't have time to go back and forth with people ten or fifteen times, especially when most situations can be remedied in 5-10 minutes on the phone.

It is complicated and nobody is better qualified to figure out your situation than am I. I have sold to electricians, heating and air conditioner guys, window guys and all manner of handy men who have hit the wall and need help. There are plenty of things those guys can do that I can't do, but none of them is better qualified to help you set up a proper cage than I am. Nobody has more expereince than I do in working though the little nuances that are going to be in virtually every situation that can be found.

Call me and I WILL, with critical information that only you can provide, give you the answers.

Call me for tech advice on the stuff I build or for a quote shipping NORTH of the border.

                          I don't bite:

Well, at least rarely and it's tough to do over the phone.

                            Re: Boaphile question

I was a few of the 33 calls today, some for ordering and some for heat. I am very specific on the heat in all my cages and Jeff was able to give me some hints and pointers to dial them in. I have issues that most probably would not even care about or just dismiss but Jeff was the man and helped me get it done to my liking. Thanks Jeff for the dimmer trick I am thinking i can get within my .5 degree temp diff between all 4 cages.
