  • Adding a Zoomed UTH to the side of my 421 ok?

So I'm loving my white 421D with 3 black hinges and 3 locks, but here's a quick question.

I need a little extra heat for the winter on my 421D and the cool side never gets below 78 at night time, but that is low for my tastes so I augmented the basking side with a side mount small ZOOMED UTH, I didn't use the mini one, but just the one slightly larger that is about 4 in x 6 in. It says on the Zoomed packaging you can use these small ones on plastic.

Hopefully this pushes my rather low basking, and ambient temps up for the winter, I also have a human heating pad on the top to try and lock in some heat.

My room is never colder than 70, and only at night, but it seems that I need a little more heat.

------>>>> So the pvc can probably handle that heating pad as long as I don't leave it on ALL the time, and monitor it and see how hot it gets.

Yes I have it on a thermostat.

Mainly.... Can the pvc handle these noticeably hotter heating pads?

As a quick update: The pad has been on for 4 hours and it's not even really working at all... lol, the temps have barely changed and it doesn't even feel hot when you touch the spot on the inside.

My flexwatt is constantly at 109-110 degrees. Does that sound right?

It will only provide localized heat...any heat that does enter will quickly rise to the top and escape.you should move it to another warmer room or Try to purchase a RHP

or make sure that the cage is not in the path of the air coming out of the vent from the A/C

Hey Jgonzales, do you have any suggestions for a RHP, or what about simply adding more flexwatt, what about just putting a space heater in the area.

I guess I should take this ZOOMED crap back.

        What about buying some insulation.

You could try a space heater. I usually have to do that at some point being in Maine, it warms a room right up but adds to electricity bill.

Yeah thanks I think I will get a space heater for my room, but I wish I could do something more hands off, so I could leave home without worrying about my boa.

Yeah your best best it to bring the ambient temps of the room up. Just because you have a nice basking spot if you don't have a ambient cage temp that is suitable you can lead to health problems. I have no way of adjusting the heat in an individual room so my apartment is like a sauna-oh well as long as my snakes are cozy. I would suggest in a little space heater, I may do the same b/c I'm definatly not tropical and the temps kick my butt sometimes.

Depending on how big your room is look into the Vornado Digital Space heat. They are really efficient rated really high in consumer reports. AND best of all have a digital thermostat that seems to work really. I have one of these in my snake room and it does good things. I would suggest getting a humidifier if you plan on getting a space heater of any kind though as they do dry the air even more which is bad for me cause I live in Az where it is already super dry.

                I hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses, I bought a little 20 dollar space heater from walmart that had really good reviews on there site.

I like it soo far other than being a little noisy but the thermometer seems to work. As far as humidity, I'm in Houston and even with my room nice and toasty now, his temps are still around 50%.

I see now how important the concept of ambient temps are, and I'll look into that efficient space heater you recommend, thanks guys.

One of these days I'll get around to posting some pics!

Not sure what you have as far as space but could you set it up in a closet it would be easeier to heat without you having to head for the couch in another room from the sauna...lol, Just a thought

Yeah man I've thought about putting it in a closet, I would do it but we just don't have enough room in the closets for it, lol.

In my last post I meant the humidity is still around 50%.

I have a Sharon Moore aka Boawoman boa, he's gonna shed in a couple of days and I'll take some pictures.

Sorry that this thread has kind of gone off topic...

If its in your basement and looks aren't a biggy.. insulate it actually you can do it pretty cheap and purchase every thing in home depot or lowes..

You can put a space heater...But if your basement is too big then you will have to get one large enough. and you have to consider the energy costs. plus its kinda dangerous.

More flex watt maybe you should have at least 11" and maybe you could add 3 to 6 more inches

but I think your best bet would be to get a RHP from Boaphile or Contact ProProducts and tell them the situation and they will sell you what you need Here is the link:

The ZooMed is just not meant for that

Those radiant heat panels are pretty nice, you install them inside the enclosure like hanging from the ceiling correct?

And I keep my snake in my bedroom on a large table, only place I can in this house.
