I will be recieving a yellow anaconda from a local school due to their lack of intrest in it. They said I have 2 months to pick it up before school starts again, because they dont want the students around it or something like that. My question is what do I use for a large water source in the cage? They just have it in a large rubbermade container with water in it. The cage will be 8x2x2 for a 6 to 7' anaconda. I need to find a way to have a large source of water and be able to drain it to clean it. I just dont know how its possible. ???

Re:Need Help In Housing a Yellow Anaconda....
Yeah, the large rubbermaid/sterolite containers would be the best thing to use. Actually once they get to that size it's about the only thing you really can use, unless you want to allow it to live in your bathroom so it can soak in the tub all when it wants to. You can get them really large, but shallow enough for them to easily crawl in and out.

Re:Need Help In Housing a Yellow Anaconda....
what was the school doing with it in the first place if they don't want it???
LOL u could always keep it in a 8x4x4 and put a small horse trauff in there for him to soak in maybe drill a hole in the trauff keep it next to the wall and put a hole in the wall for a hose and put a drain valve on it so u can drain it without actually having to get in the cage to grab the tub.. as far as that i am out of info. sorry hope this gives u an idea of some sort similar to this .

Re:Need Help In Housing a Yellow Anaconda....
Hi Xander,
First let me stress my experience with Yellow Condas.. They do not make a good house pet at all. They are slightly less agressive them their green counterparts, but that isn't saying much. Conda's are agressive by nature, like Rock Pythons. Every one I have gotten in my rescue, all came with the same story. It was a puppy, never had a problem, then wham BIG problems.. These types of snakes are best left to zoo's.. OK I will get off my soap box..
Now if your gonna give this snake a proper home you better have alot of space and alot of heat..Based on their nature you will basically need a double cage setup. It will require (if not now, soon) a dry area that is 5 foot deep by 10 foor long, and you will need atlest a 5 foot deep by 8 foot long of water area. that is atleast 18 inches deep. You will need to give the snake plenty of climb area or strudy trees layed at an angle that are secured in place so the snakes doesn't knock it over and get hurt. The best way to make the water area is to make it to last. I helped a friend do this and it worked great.. Get an old tub cut the bottom out of it, leave the drain hole in it. Put the tub bottom on the center and build the pool with out with heavey gauge wire. Then cement. make sure all the edges of the tup and buried well and the cement is layed smooth so the snake gets no cuts.. Don't forget you will need to attace the drain hole to pipes leading either into your sewer or atleast out side away from the house. Keep in mind that when this conda reaches full size you will be feeding it a ton of chickens and rabbits a month.. I know you wanted a simple idea what would work, but this is what the snake really needs.. Do yourself a favor be careful..
Hope this helped..
Steve
