LightGuard - Welcome Thats the first thing I found but I think LED is the best way to go. It doesn't produce heat like a regular bulb and there is also no fear of broken glass. That cage that you posted will heat up because it is so close to the bulb, it also looks like a recipe for nose rubs.

I wish I could help, but when I was building my cage, I looked ALL OVER for those without any luck at all

Is that simply for a light, or will that also be your heat source? If it's just for a light, I'd do flourescent instead.

If it's a heat source, you'd be better off cutting a hole in the top and screening over it. Then you can just use a dome light on top of the screen.

Ideally you should use flexwatt or a radient heat panel (rhp). Those are the two best options.

Let me know if you've got any more questions!

Not if it's done right and u use the right gauge wire. And this is coming from someone still using a glass aquairiums.

Since it will be used for heat..wouldnt the "cage" around the bulb get hot too? Then that would burn the snake?

Make the switch to heat panels my friend - they'll go right over that hole that you cut . If you plan on staying in the hobby for a long time , you'll end up switching heat sources from lights down the road , and looking back, you'll just wish that you had done it in the first place.

                      are these heat panels expensive......

and no the guard doesnt get hot i have one already in a tank that i bought and i can be using a 75-100w light bulb and i can rest my hand on the guard and it'll be BARELY warm...... i guess its the material its made of.......

but ill look into these panels..... Pro Products right?
