• Look what came in today!

My AP T-8 came in today while I was at school. I screwed in my LED lighting and Pro Products heat panel, took about twenty mins to put together. I have the RHP on full power right now to see if it will get hot enough. How long does it take these things to get hot? Seems like it takes a while, unless it needs to break in.

Here are some pics, keep in mind the glass has not shipped yet so its just the frame. Its a naked cage with no decorations yet so it kinda looks bland, sorry about that.. I have bedding, plants, and some wood on the way. This will be the only snake in my house when I get it, so Im going all out on this decor stuff. As of right now its on my burrow, but it will be going on its new stand on the side of my burrow when I build one this spring.

Congratulations on your new cage, you have to post new pictures once you get it all set up, I'm sure it will look awesome.

(Gentle correction....bureau, not burrow. Sorry, my OCD made me type that)

Have not purchased one yet. Still have a whole lot to do before it is ready.

QUESTION: Are those little Zoo Med Digital Thermometers accurate? I had one from my fishtank and I wanted to test the heat panel quickly and it is reading about 92 on the hot side, but when you put your hand in there is it only somewhat warm. Do you think its because human body temps are above 90 and thats why it doesn't feel that effective?

I am definitely getting a boa this time around. I used to have ball pythons but want something larger and more active.

I have actually been eyeing a hypo jungle on Zamora's website, Mississippi Morphs. Unfortunately it is way to cold where I am for shipping. However, it would be a while longer until I have everything planned out and running for at least a week. I have never purchased a snake from online and I am going to be honest, shipping scares me :/

I think it will be tempting to go to my reptile store that usually has a couple of boa morphs, but they are not produced by reputable breeders that I know of.

Yes, i agree with you on the shipping. That on of the reasons why i myself haven't ordered another snake because its super cold in Chicago. These delivery drivers like fedex and ups, they like to leave packages outside. Zamora do have some pretty awesome snakes but so do a couple of other people one this site. But its the cold for shipping, plus i work a lot and i don't want to come home to a package with a dead snake inside of it because of an idiot delivery driver..

AP is a good company. Great customer service.

Re: Look what came in today!

Congrats!! I remember when my first cage came back in 2011. It was a Boaphile cage though. I was on deployment and my son emailed me and told me it came in. I called him from the ship, yeah we can do that, and talked him through the hook up procedure. I was worried just as u are about the heating. I called or emailed him every hour to check on the temp. I know I was gettin on his nerves. I waited 24 hours b4 I was comfortable with putting my snake in. I have a couple different types of thermometers, some digital, some of the ones you stick to the enclosure. They work fine for me but that didn't stop me from getting a temp gun also. Keep in mind that your RHP is in an enclosed space which will Kildare heat better than your class aquariums. You said it's 92 degrees and you do not have the glass yet? Well that's good, and when your RHP is regulated by your thermostat, the temp your RHP may seem even lower. But it will do the job. I have both Boaphile and Ap cages (421ds, T8s, T25) and I'm currently waiting on a T8 and T65 to get here. Again, congrats and if you have anymore questions I will be more than willing to help.

Yes, and a half hour later it reached 98. I actually put a blanket across the whole front to keep in heat. I just don't know if I can trust the Zoo med thermometer probe. It worked perfectly in my aquarium but it just didn't "feel" like it was 98 in there. Ill feel better when I get my herpstat and it gives me 90 degree readings.

Anyone else waiting for their tax returns to help out your herps? lol!

Re: Look what came in today!

Some pictures that I forgot to add. I am adding them now because I am really happy with how everything turned out.

I added some nice strong clamps to hold the RHP's wires. I don't want my future baby to be playing jump rope with them! IS THIS the way you would have put the panel on? Or would you have turned it so it covered half the cage length wise?

I am happy with the LED lighting. As you can see, it has a ninety degree angle to sit flush against the top and side of the cage walls. When I ordered it I thought it was just a round bulb all the way around. So opening the shipping box and seeing that it was angled made just a bit happier.

Overall, I think everything came out nice and clean. But I'm dying to get it all set up. I never had a cage that was two feet deep so for me this is a pretty big cage for me.

I have a couple installed the way you have it there. But in my larger enclosures (T25) I have it going length wise. I like it better going longer but both ways work.

Nice pickup, I have a couple of racks from AP and their customer service and caging are top notch. If you don't mind my asking, what was the lead time like? Mine took every bit of the 12 weeks they estimated, but I had planned for a long wait so it wasn't a big deal.

92 shouldn't feel very warm to the touch, so you're probably alright.

The placement of the RHP is right on; you want to have a distinct hot side vs cool side so they have some choice to thermoregulate.

I would definitely get a boa from zamora if she has something you like. Shipping live animals can be a little scary, but if the seller knows what they're doing and the temps outside are within reason, it can be very safe and you have so much more to choose from than what you can get locally. Zam's a good person with nice snakes though, so don't be shy.
