  • Any types of wood I should stay away from?

I have some nice wood in my garage(not sure what kind, but I'll find out) and I'm thinking about using it to make my new friend(BCI) a nice sized home. What types of wood are best? What should I stay away from? Also, is plexiglass ok for the front, or should I use glass? I want to make this right the first time so I don't have to repair(or rebuild) it later. Thanks!

Yeah, plexiglass is OK for the front of the cage. The main woods to stay away from is Pine and cedar. That can really make your snakes sick from the oils in the wood.

Thanks a ton! Hopefully that will save me a significant amount of money.

I found out the wood is birch. And I've got some really good hook-ups around that might be able to get me some cheap plexiglass!

This is sort of old, but I thought it would be good to add something. Pine is actually fine to build enclosures with. Pine is only harmful to boas if it is actually ingested. It's cheap and works great. However, cedar is definately a no no.
