  • finally getting ready to build Ursula's cage

One problem though. s3.gif I would like to build it about 4 feet wide, but the door to my house is unfortunantly very small, about 2 feet ??? (I still don't know why they built it that freakin small!!!!! >) So, what I would like to do, is build the cage in two halves, front half and back half. I have a few Ideas of how to do it and latch it together, but I'm not sure about how to seal the crack up, so that it will still be able to come back apart again, when and if we move. You know, so I can get it back out of my house. So any ideas would be helpful, especially from all of you that build and/or sell cages. cwm15.gif s16.gif

Re: finally getting ready to build Ursula's cage

I am in the process of building a tank for my baby, Isis, as well...and I realized that just the other day. What I was thinking is that I will be building the tank at my father's house (since he has all the nice tools!) and then I'll take it apart and reassemble at my home. What I was considering was to either just secure the pieces together with screws or some type of latch, but I am definately afraid of cracks where either the bedding or the humidity can get out. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, that would be GREAT!!!

You could try putting soft rubber on both sides and some type of bolt, so when you tighten the bold it wont crack, and the rubber will seal.

Re: finally getting ready to build Ursula's cage

I think I've just decided to either purchase a couple of cages from Jeff Ronne or build one that is only two feet deep. I've thought of a few ideas on how to seal the "crack", but it wouldn't completely seal without elimanating the ability to take it apart again. So, I think I've given up on this Idea. I've been talking to Jeff about a cage I would like from him. Now it's time to make a decision on what I'm going to do. I guess it pretty much depends on the amout of cash flow and how much time I really want to spend on building my own.

Ok well I would buy from jeff too... Oh ya I did... Well any way if you want to build a cage that can come apart... There is these thing's for putting together set peices.. They are called coffen lock's... Real easy to use and if you got some of that stuff that they seal the door way's of old houses you could use that... I have a friend that has three cages that are four pieces and they work like a charm... He even keep's a turtul in one and half of it is filled with water... I don't think that you would have too much of a problem with the humidity... But like I said I would buy from the boaphile.. He has made cages that have every thing... easy to heat, easy to clean, light, durrable, keep's humidity in, and you can have lights' extra vent's and heater pad's built in. You can have just about any color you want and they come stackable and expandable... devidable... and the thing that makes them better then the rest is that they are cheap... end of commercial Now run and get you boaphile cage... lol

I don't know. I have talked to Jeff Ronne several times about the cage I want to buy from boaphile and it's going to cost me about $600 for the size and options that I want from it. I have talked to a few friends of mine who are carpenters or have access to the tools needed and we can build one for about $200 with all the same options. I am probably going to start building next week. I'll let you all know how it goes and take some pix during the building process. Hopefully it will go as well as planned. b19.gif b20.gif
