I was given a beautiful BCI female with a 55 gallon tank. I knew right away that i was going to built it a better enclosure. I have experience building conventional lumber houses and post & beam houses, but i have very little experience with fine wood working, so this was a challenge. All in all, minus a few flaws, it came out great!
I started off building 5 sides of the box (all sides but the front.) But then i was stuck on how to finish the front, and what type of doors to use. I came across the boaphile replica post by Mrivera78, and I knew thats how I would do it.
I switched it up a little by using cabinet grade wood, applying a stain, and 3 coats of polyurethane. I put the box in my backyard where the Texas 103 degree sun and heat beat down on it every day for 25 days. This was to allow the polyurethane to off-gas.
Here we are a month later and the box is finally done. I got her into the box the other night and I could tell she liked it. She immediately went for a 20 minute swim, and has just been chilling ever since.
I am still looking for a nice big piece of drift wood to mount inside to allow her to do a bit of climbing.
