  • Frozen Rat Storing

Just got my boa moved over to frozen/thawed (she took her first one last night)

So I did some surfing today, checking prices and such, and was wondering... (this may be a stupid question but, ahh well) I don't have a 'deep' freezer, I just have a regular fridge like most people.

Can I store the rats in it? or does it not get cold enuf?

2nd question, what would you do in my cituation....

My fridge can only hold 'maybe' 10 small rats at most... Due to having food and stuff in the freezer as well...

The smallest amount I've seen that you can buy online is 15.

Should I just keep going to my local pet store once a week, and grabbing 1 frozen a week? or...

    Suggestions please...

    And thanks in advance...

Yeah, regular freezer will do just fine. You should've seen mine a couple months ago after the reptile swap in Chicago, I didn't have room for my own food. Stuffed full of Rats and Rabbits.

As far as the other situation.......Well, Is it possible to rearrange your freezer?

How about buying about ten from the pet store and store them until you can figure something else out? Just a suggestion.........

          Re:Frozen Rat Storing

The best way is to find a reptile swap in your area and buy 10 frozen a month, that'll save you some trips and money. Or you could find another person in your area and piggy-back or combine orders to save money on volume. Just my 2 cents.

            Hey Wezal,

Congrats on your baby switching.. Good move..

Space is a problem only you could answer.. You could try to make room, get a mini chest freezer from a local store, or get less rats. Could get say 10 from the local store just to keep them on hand..

            Good luck

                Re:Frozen Rat Storing

I got my chest freezer from wal mart.
When you have more snakes you might want to think about either moving up to the chest freezer...or go ahead and plan ahead and buy one now. But only if you plan on having lots of reptiles.

                Don't tell my wife...

but when we run out of room for our food in the normal freezer....I sneak down to the basement and store some of the food with the ratcicles. It came with a partition thingy so I am able to separate the rat meat from everything else.

Wow yall, thats a good idea. I should be doing this. I think i'm gonna run to wal-mart and see about that small freezer tat was talkin about. Is there a time limit to how long you can store rats in the freezer before they are no good? 8)

                    Re:Frozen Rat Storing

I have had mine in the fridge for going on 5 months now and they are still in the same conditon as when I put them in there. I would say as long as they don't get frost biten you should be fine.
I take mine out of the bag that they come in and put themin one of those space saver bags like you see on tv the ones that you can vacume the air out of works great. You can get them at Wal-Mart as well.
