  • Cobra heat mats?

I was lookin into a new heat mat for my red tail, I currently have a nice Kane mat I got from a friend but its a tad old and im not sure if its workin as well as it used to. Anyways the new kane mats are a tad pricey and I was wondering about cobra heat mats. Can these be put in the cage under the substrate ? I have a cravenhouse enclosure and the bottom piece is about 3/4 thick so I doubt the heater will penitrate enough for the snake unless its inside.

Any opinions and options on what mats/how to setup would be great thanks.

I would use the Kane mats for that enclosure. they're the best on the market. Its waterproof and you could disinfect it. It goes inside the cage.
I use cobra heat mats on the boaphile cage and its great. I taped it with adhesive tape on the bottom but you need a rheostat to control the heat or it will run too hot. I would not put cobra mats inside an enclosure because the liquid waste from the animal will damage the product. They are not water proof like the kanes.

I currently have the biggest Cobra Mat you can buy and don't get me wrong, it's an awsome mat but like clone said, DO NOT put the mat in the inside of the cage. The cobra mat stays at a constant 100 deg. but mine has toped out at 120 deg., not good for your boa because then you'll run into burns on your boa. As a undertank heater there great but I highly suggest you get a digital thermastat and put it near the heat source so you can regulate the temprature. Like I said, 100 deg. is too hot for your snakes belly. Get one that will automatically shut off the mat at a certain temp. I'm currently experimenting with about 80 deg. but if you put your hand where the mat is and leave it there, see if you can stand that kind of temp. for that long!! The big thing with that mat is make sure it doesn't get too hot or you'll be going to the vet for silvadene cream for the burns on your snakes belly. Good luck bro. 8)

I use two cobra mats in my 125 gallon tank. Put them outside the tank and buy a rheostat..or thermometer I have had no problems with mine...without the rehostat thell run way to ot though...good luck

i use heat tape and have had no problems with it so far.. my cage is 4x2x2 and made of about 3/4 in. wood heat tape seems to heat it well i also have a radiant heat panel on the inside top of the cage as well a thermostat hooked up to shut off at 90 degrees and it works great hope this helps. if u are wondering where i got the heat supplies it is at www.bigappleherp.com.

Big Apple Herps have some heat mats that are safe to use in the cage. I forget which manufacturer makes them. You may want to consider a RHP, which also goes in the cage nut at the top. I hear good things about them and Big Apple has them at good prices.

            Just my 2 cents

I'm not sure what your enclosure looks like, but I use Kane heat mats on many cages which are custom made wood cages. on all others I use Radiant heat panels which are awesome also. Those are the two options that I use with success for enclosures that require the heating device to be inside. Heat panels I order from the Bean Farm and Kane heat mats from Herpsupplies .com. I hope this info is helpful. Good luck!
