Re:I'm looking for a new camera
HI,
many times I have an urge to buy something, I go to that CNET.com and start reading reviews and they tell you the plus and the negative aspects of each item reviewed. I did this for printers and will now start reviewing cameras . look for the editors choice award. that means it was the best for the BUCK...My kind of stuff.
Cannons were the choice out of many of the price ranges..
I like sony PC but they seem to have some problems with the new style CD burners in some of their camera's so I'll stay with the old fashion 64/ 128 bit cards... so search search.. rember camera's need batteries and many are rechargable one battery pack for a sony is 50.00.

Re:I'm looking for a new camera
That Canon PowerShot A300 has pretty much everything as the Nikon Coolpix 995, which is the first one I fell in love with. And it's much cheaper. I think that's the one I'm going to start saving for!!! Thanks Steve. That one has pretty much everything I'm looking for, Other than a rechargable lithium Ion battery, but I'll get lots of Nimh rechargable batteries. Do you or anybody know how it does with closeup pix? Are they clear or pretty blurry? I just wish I could find someplace that would take payments or give credit.

Re:I'm looking for a new camera
I have the Nikon Coolpix 2100 and love it. The only down side is that it sucks down the batteries, so make sure you get plenty nimh rechargeables.

Re:I'm looking for a new camera
I would normally suggest a Fuji Finepix but that 200 it really isn't that impressive. I did however come up with a few you should look into.. Here is a couple of links.. if you fall in love with any of these, let me know which one and we will get you a better price..
Canon PowerShot A300, 3.2 Megapixel, 5.1x Digital Zoom, Point-and-shoot, Digital Camera
Nikon Coolpix 2100, 2.0 Megapixel, 3x Optical/4x Digital Zoom, Point-and-shoot, Digital Camera
Olympus Camedia D-560 Zoom, 3.2 Megapixel, 3x Optical/3.3x Digital Zoom, Point-and-shoot, Digital Camera
There are more. I am checking out a few more. Will post them soon. I will always suggest with cameras and optics. The more you can spend the better deal and the better camera you can get.. Let me know if your budget can play a little..
Hope this helps a little..
Steve

Re:I'm looking for a new camera
Yeah, that's what I'm looking for is a macro setting and at least 2.1 megapixel. The higher the megapixel the more detail the camera will produce.

Re:I'm looking for a new camera
Steve is the real pro at this stuff, I would listen to his advice. I have, and am already taking pictures better than I thought I ever could! Get the best optics you can afford with a macro setting. If all you want to do is post to the web I don't think you need that many megapixels resoluton. But again, sclark IS a pro at this stuff, I'm just a dummy who follows his advice.
Good Luck!

Re:I'm looking for a new camera
Yeah, that's were I'm getting most of my information from. But to me all that information is just numbers. I'm trying to get information about exactly how the closeups are. I've also been getting info from epinions.com There I've been getting some users opinions on different cameras. I just wish I had examples of what the pictures look like that differnt cameras take at close up ,at a distance and zooming in. I'm trying to find one that can zoom in and still show good detail. I'm leaning towards the Nikon coolpix 990 or 995.

Go to www.dpreview.com all the info you need (probably more than you ever wanted) on digital cameras

Re:I'm looking for a new camera
Which Fujifilm finepix would be a good one? What color filter array is a better one to look for? G-R-G-B or C-Y-G-M?

Re:I'm looking for a new camera
Actually, I'm pretty much just looking for posting on the Internet. Printing would be kool too, but I can just use the programs I have on my computer to print them out. I think my main focus is clear, fully colored, good clear close up pix!! And I don't have to donate my spleen to science to afford it.

Re:I'm looking for a new camera
Hey Evil,
I should be able to come up with something that will work for you that will fit within that budget.. I will start looking around for you. I would suggest you start looking at one of the Fuji FinePix. They do nice closeup's, take a good pic. One thing you didn't mention. Do you need the images for the internet or do you need something that will make good hard copy prints as well.. Fot $200 there are several possible cameras that will work great for closeup's and posting on the net, and will even allow you to print upto say 5x7. If you need one that will work well for larger prints, you may have to look into say $300..
I will follow up here as soon as I can make a few calls for you..
Steve
