Re: Hay there is more legislation trying to keep

Ignorance and stupidity from fellow herpers is what causes most of the legislation.

Here is an example from our area (2 hours from me) in Tyler Texas (city limits only)

A python owner takes his 14 foot burmese to the MALL and walks down the center isle of the mall with it hanging around his neck.

After several people screamed and ran, one fainted, and many ran inside shops for shelter the dude left in a hurry.

However, the next town council meeting passed a city ordinance to prevent boids from being displayed in a public forum.

Although in general this is probalby a good idea to prevent some knucklehead from running through the mall with a 14 foot burmese, the concequences of this ordinance had far reaching effects. Guess what a pet store is considered. Yep! A public location. So now none of the pet stores in the Tyler area, can display, sell or breed, boids. Period, end of story.

So even well intentioned ideas can be used against us. It would be much wiser to not be a bonehead and give anyone else reason to rise against us.. There are enough already...

I mean 1 person died last year from a python accident. Yet 11 people were killed or mangled by pit bulls... Don't see any laws to ban them.. YET.. but is it coming? I think so...

A few irresponsible people bring trouble to the masses.
To gain knowledge is good, but to share knowledge is wise

That is very true Clay. Man that is unbelievable that pet stores can't even have boids.
Sorry for the implied swear, I just get so mad at peoples ignorance when it comes to reptiles!
That pitbull thing really agravates me, in fact in a study I read about the dangers of owning a boid it was noticed that you are more likely to be bit by a human than a pet boid. I think Vosjoli's book even made reference to it.

Re: Hay there is more legislation trying to keep

Ok I thought I read that some people were saying that they had beff with pitbulls. Let me just say something. I own two pit's. And as someone said early it is nothing more than some bonehead owner. Pitbulls have gotten the rep that hey have from people who raise there dogs to be mean. My wife has a book with hundreds of fact's in it, one thing I read in there gave some stats on dog breeds. It had the top ten% of dogs that bit the most, funny thing pitbulls weren't even in the top ten%. So again it isn't the animal so much as it is the owners of the animal's that are the idiot's here.

Re: Hay there is more legislation trying to keep

                Here's my 2 cents .....
The only animals that we need laws against ,are STUPID PEOPLE .If it wasn't for people and there bad desisions there would be very few problems at all .
So if anymore laws are passed ,I hope they are against
                "stupid people"
                Thats my 2c

                Later

Totally agree with you dan, but just one thing. In my experience this would mean 90% of the world would not be allowed to do anything.

Clay right unless people are more resopnsible pet owners its just a matter of time before all boids are illegal in city limits.
                    I hope Iam wrong,

Thats great news, hopefully there are no more "incidents" with large boids so it is not attempted again.
