  • website owners nightmare !!??

Ok, Just what any site owner's nightmare would be...losing your domain name..UGH. Especially once you have the site built up majorly and this takes place.
www.redtailboa.net/org site domains were somehow either stolen or bought yesterday from under us. We know who it is that owns them now too..according to the registrars that is. Someone in China managed to get their hands on the two domains. Clay seeing as you hold the other of the other possibilities closely related ..might want to make sure that yours is set in stone atm.
We didn't lose the site though, just the domain names were lost. Noone is able to access the site atm as we are working on setting the new domain names to hit the dns code right now. We also have to do some coding for the site itself for all the things like the links within etc to work correctly...arghhh. The site's owner will get to the fixing tonite supposedly. I bought new domains for the site last nite. They are ..
http://www.reptilehaven.net and http://reptilehaven.org It might take a day , hopefully not any longer to get the site back up ol.
Also seeing that our email accounts were linked through the site's domain name.. Don't use that any longer for sending email my way please. You can now use any of the following until we have the new domain email set up also...
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]

Of course my pictures and MANY other peoples pics are also not linking atm ol. YUP, we had the albums on the same domain name also...arghh. Once we fix the site's domain to the new one. I'll go through and fix my post pics here also for them np. My avator is also held on the domain that was lost. Haven't lost the pics, just the domain they were on. Now we need to fix the domain and link the sites through ......UGH.

      Re: website owners nightmare !!??

      Well Lori,

As you know my "real" job is Network Engineer, and I have been familiar with that sort of thing, and have even seen Squatters sit on my domain names,  and with a local business who lost their domain just by failure to renew the site.  They were able to purchase their name back but at a cost.

I just registered my .net and .org names a couple of days ago.  Some jerk registered them the same day that I created redtailboas.com, a few years back.  And before I could finish with the .net and .org they were grabbed by this squatter!!!!!!

Well I waited him out, for the full 2 years that he had grabbed them for and FINALLY just registered them for myself.

Squatters will watch and monitor internet "traffic" and a site like yours redtailboa.net  had high high traffic and would be on the highly wanted squatters hitlist.

Now they will either try to resell to you guys or hold hostage the traffic and redirect each hit to an advertising page that they get paid per hit from various companies.

Huang ming in china seems to be the culprit according to Whois.  Good luck, wish I could help.    I keep my sites registered for at least 2 years ahead at a time, and as they get within a year, I hit them up for 2 more.

The most important lesson to learn from this is that the

primary email contact = [email protected]

      For example [email protected]

In this situation all email sent to redtailboas.com whether directly sent to cenglish or webmaster etc etc will show up in the [email protected] email system.

Some people will use a non-static email such as hotmail, yahoo mail etc etc. If this type address is listed as primary contact with the registrar and you for any reason fail to monitor it, they will not hunt you down or try to find you at another address. It is primary contact information or none at all.

Aspiring website owners, make sure your email is the same as the domain you are registering.

Yeah.. .. The squatter wants 1500 for the domain name lmao.. He can keep it then. We're setting up the new one atm np. We should be fully up within 24 hours now..most likely less than that. We have our database of members so we should be able to let most if not all of them know the new addy. Great reason to have kept the email info up to date hehe.

            Lori,

Will the new name http://www.reptilehaven.net keep everything else exactly the same, such as photo directories, and links etc.

I am trying to figure out a way to replace

The red-tailed boa is a member of the Boidae family of snakes. The sub-species are simply called “boa constrictors but the dominate species is the

            with

in some 10000 messages by searchin and replacing the text.

I am not sure this will work but I will give it a try, because we will have a ton of links that will be inactive.

Let me know for sure and I will start to work on it.

              HI,
Lori, is ther a way to warn search engines on the web about this sort of thing so they don't take people to the wrong forum, why would he want your forums name is he thinking about starting a reptile forum in china????
More likely I have been getting pinged alot lately from the west coast and some where around DC. My fire wall has been detecting numerous attempts to access my pc.
My advice to anyone with cable or dsl feed to their pc get a good firewall. MAny computer hackers are trying to steal credit card info off your pc while your on line if you have cable modem, or dsl it happens so fast you don't know it.
They must have some type of activity on the net as a detector ..
I know I sound a bit paranoid but I don't want anyone I know credit cards maxed out, if you have used a credit card on your PC there's a record of it on your pc.
               SImilar situation:
if it less than 5,000.00 dollar charged most credit card companies will not pursue the theft and forget about the police ..
doug     Get a good fire wall on your PC whom ever makes your Virus Protection makes a firewall software, so if you use nortons they have one same for Mc afee and you can load the latter on line at their web page.

                  Re: website owners nightmare !!??

Thanx for the offer Clay on the rtb.us We have the reptilehaven.net up now. Working on them internal site links atm also. [ NOT me though ..I am like low-side pc savvy lmao] Our .org is going to take a bit to link into the dns from what we are being told. Something about a delay atm on all the newly registered /org domains.
It actually took my pc a bit before I could hit the new site addy. If anyone else is looking to get on there and can't seem to hit the www.reptilehaven.net addy.. The dns ip to set at is this one....
198.7.0.1 [ Don't even think of asking me how to set it though lol] We were told that the dns should hit fully all around within 24/48 hours and that was last nite even.

Clay...yup the albums will be hitting one of our new addy domains..Not sure which one yet..BUT I'll ask np. We were moving them to a new server this weekend before all this came up anyways. Sooo.. It's waiting now. I went ahead and paid on the different domains for extra years also. NOT going through this bs again anytime soon lol. We now own..
reptilehaven.net/org/us/biz ones . I grabbed the other two to have a hold on em is all for now.

I sent an email asking on where our albums would be parked at and also if what you asked would work or suggestions on how to set it all up that will help you here with it to our site owner. let ya know what he says. Should hear from him tomm.. according to what he said in chat tonite.

                  Doug...
Some domain names are watched cuz of the amount of traffic volume they get on them. If it is high, then they will try and pirate the domain and use em for the amount of traffic hits that go to them. All has to do with $$$ The redtailboa.org addy already has a site sitting on it now. I don't see what it has to do with redtails if ya ask me though. :

                  Thanx Clay
