Re:Alligator's
Hey Gun Lover.
I have had two in the past 3 years for short times. They were rescues and I am not setup to handle one for too long. One was put down and the other was relocated to some animal zoo in Alabama. If your thinking of getting one, think long and hard. I don't care what the seller says, they are not tame and never will be. They are cool as heck to watch, but not too own. They get big, each a lot of food and need a big area, not to mention, just try to find a local vet that makes house calls..

Re:Alligator's
;D Growing up in Florida I owned many gators as pets. My advice is there a "Huge Commitment" I dissagree with the comment that the'll never be tame. Although, alligators are natuarlly aggresive. If you do decide to own a gator as a pet. Check with your local area about laws on owning one. These animals eat a ton and grow at a rapid rate. If you want your pet to be tame I would advice getting your gator from a breeder and or Gator farm. Find one who doesn't posture, hiss, snap, or bite and doesn't mind being held. Then you will have to continually have to handle him and get him used to you. Keep in mind though even though your gator may be tame it is a wild animal and @ 4-6 feet can do some real damge. I wouldn't reccomend one as a first pet. If you want a big lizard. Savannah Monitors are good to go I have two of them. Good luck..

Re:Alligator's
I Know I contradicted myself and I realized that after the fact but, I also stated I wouldn't reccomend one as a first pet. To add to what I stated before. All of the alligators I had were released back to the wild before the reached 4 feet. Alligators tend to be farely tame when there little but, are way to much to handle when they get big. I agree with Steve for the Most part but, If its something you want to pursue then do your homework because this will be one hell of an assignment....Comment

Thanks steve ..Like I said I owned gators and they were fun but, they were a lot of responsibility..
[/quote] yea i knew they where..i know dallas has laws on them about owning them.i think you have to a permit from texas parks and wildlife to own or house them, and have to give access to game wardens at anytime.i know a few game wardens and gonna check w/ them.Comment

Re:Alligator's
O.K. Big guy. I've been thinking about it and have you thought of possibly getting a caimen? Caimens don't get to be a 1/4 of the size of an alligator. Also, you can buy dwarf caimens wich stay really small I believe under 3 feet. This may be your best bet. Just think long and hard about this. What are you going to do with a 5-6 foot alligator when he becomes to big for you to control? Dwarf Caimens are also aggressive by nature and will need a lot of handling but, all in all I think wpould make a better pet for you..Good luck with your decision..Comment
