I Hate Ant's!

So summer is here and besides the 100 degree temp's we have something even more bothersome in the desert, Ant's and Fly's! So today I get home to find red ant's in my kids room. One bit my toe. So....... I sprayed them and vaccumed and cleaned. No huge deal. So I am checking on my snakes and see that I need to clean up some "mess" in Jezebel's cage and I see red ANTS!!!!!!!! They were in her cage! I was so MAD! cwm23.gif I looked for the source and noticed a damp towel on the floor next to her cage. They must have been attracted to the towel, then to yummy snake pee or something. cwm8.gif Nasty things! So I killed them, b24.gif and cleaned out her cage. I checked her over and she seems okay. I know they were not in there this morning cause I checked on her and changed her water and all that good stuff.
Well I mostly wanted to vent and ask a couple questions.... Does anyone think she could have been hurt by them? Has this happened to anyone else before?

Hey Beth,

Not 100% sure, but my best guess would be that a red ant could give some bites to your babies. I know that some red anys ahve some very strong pinchers, so that would be my best guess.. I hate ants as well. Just get yourself a few spiney lizards and let them much out..LOL They love to eat ants.. I would try to get the ants under control. We had a problem with carpenter ants when I moved into this house and we got some granuals from the local outdoor store. The kind you sprinkle around the base of the house and hit it with a hose. Worked real great for me. Almost never see an ant in the hose these days..

i hate ant's to..fire ants and piss ants are the worst. i use whats called demon.its a water based spray w/ no oder.doesnt leave any kind of resadue or anything.it comes in 3 packs.just drop it in water and it disovles.just shake and use.might check a hardware store for it..it works good on other pests to.and if iam not mistaken its a less harmfull to humans but deadly to other animals

Ive had problems with ants in my home , mine are the black sweet loving ones.
I have tried everything to stop them, they crawl thru the walls and come out thru the edges of the wood trim in the room. They scare the poo out of me, so I remove my snakes and spray the outside base of the cage the floor wood work , base boards with some of that long lasting ant spray if they touch it they die key word residual spray.. It last for a month and they usally go somewhere else in the house.. I used to use durspan around the foundation but it had to many problems and was removed from the market . Be careful I have seen snakes trapped in cage with ants trying to eat them for lunch. and many ants are looking for water too . yeachh..
Neve take cokes or candy in the snake room the ants have scouts looking for food and the'yll march on a empty coke can by the thousands.
Good luck check you base boards and the window sills thats how they get in my rooms they crawl up the inside wall then they come out and scout the room if they find anything they bring back the army.. Ps you may want to put all your open food in your pantry in tupperware like product's they will find that too. . :P

Yeah, I've got the Ant problem too!! But like Doug, I get the little Black ants!! Last year they were Horrible. But this year I took an early attack. I place Ant Baits ALL OVER THE HOUSE!!!! Everyplace I ever saw a huge infestation of ants got an Ant Bait. You know the ones that claim to kill them in 24 hrs. I put 2 in the Bathroom, 1 on the kitchen counter, 1 behind the fridge, 1 under the fridge and 2 in the Vents. Luckily we don't have Central Air so they are pretty safe in the vents!! So far, So good. Hardly any Ants in the house any longer!! Last year we'd wake up in the morning and if we didn't do the dishes the night before, the entire counter would be covered in Ants. Now, we may see one or two, but that's about it. Moral of the story, start early spring with the baits and the Ant problem will be controled.

I did big time cleaning last night and today. But this past week they have been popping up. I swear, I will clean my kitchen every night and they will go after the stupidest things like a drop of water on the floor or my hand soap. ??? I guess I am gonna have to spray outside around the house. I wouldn't be as paranoid if they were the black ants cause they don't bite right? The red one's do and they sting like a mother s5.gif! The bite I got on my toe is still swollen and itchy. And what makes me mad is usually ants follow a line, but these ones are just loners or something. I will see them here or there all by themselves. Funny huh? I am glad there were only like 20 in Jezebel's cage at the most last night. When I took her out I could tell she was irratated though. I was hoping her scales were too tough to bite through.
Okay everyone thanks for letting me complain for a while. s36.gif And thanks for all your ideas with the spraying. Hopefully I will get that done soon.

8) Yup its that time of yr again ants are always around.. We just get the little sugar ants on the counter every now and then, once in awhile a wood ant will wonder into the house, now those things bite real bad and they keep on bitting till they get the point across or ya smash um.. Anyways just to point something out if by any chance you keep insect critters or Tarantulas please make sure you dont use any chemicals around them it could very well kill them..

The one thing I ve noticed about ants is you can't easily eradicate them you can only try and keep them out of the rooms. They usally move in your house and live in the walls and exit thru the walls to the yard. They will find food in your house and the will scout every square inch of your home. found them in both bathrooms in the garage they love apple tree's, cherries, soap, and I have feed them that borax ant poison for weeks and they keep coming back for more.. and they like many birches and willows ,they put aphids on my roses to milk like cows and they are constantly trying to find water for their babies.. They are a pain but all you can do is try and keep the at bay.
I move my trash can outside they find it in 24 hours.
Hehe...planet of the killer ants... :P

LMAO, your too funny Doug...... but I know exactly what you mean. Ummmmmm, I just poured borax all around the outside of my house. I hope it at least helps a little. My father-in -law brought me some from his work. The Borax Mine's. We'll see if it helps!
