    Hey Red,

I may be unpopular for saying this, but its about time. These idiots are responcible for most of the bad exposure reptile folks get. I say if you want to keep these animals as pets, then go about things the right way and get permits and get the pets from legal breeders..

I agree... You just have to go about it the right way... but if it came down to it I would keep them no matter what the stupid law makers think... but while it is leagal then I say pay for it.... and just do it or don't....

I also agree. Getting the permits required and playing by the rules is the way things should be.

Well, I agree 100%, there's nothing wrong with doing things legally. But, don't the feds have better things to worry about? Here's something similar that happened in Colorado last week.

Well Steve, I don't think that statement has made you unpopular at all!!! Most of us, including myself, agree 100%. If you are going to raise, care for and keep reptiles for the love of it, do it legally and get the permits. In fact as soon as Ursula gets to the length that we need to have a permit, we're going to get one for her. I live in IL and I think the law is over 8ft you need a license. She's only got a foot to go!!!

                  Re:news reptile related.... (raids)

Illegal trade/transport of ANY thing to me is wrong. So I will not defend that aspect, but I do have one thing I am against.

The one issue I have is when captive bred/captive raised babies (from legal parents) are seized. It seems to me that captive breeding would help the situation, not hurt it.

Protect them? Sure. Ensure the survival of the species? Even better.

Please don't misread this. I am talking about people with LEGAL ownership of adult animals. If they then breed these and raise captive born babies, I feel they should not be confiscated.

Hogg Island Boas are deemed extinct in thier natural habitat. Yet captive breeding has produced a situation where extinction is not an issue. BUT when do they come after our captive bred Hogg Island Boas? Never? Next Year? Tomorrow?

                  That's my 2 cents

I think the bigger issue here Clay is the Venomous Snakes, alligators, venomous lizards..these types of Animals that can cause severe damage to people if they were to escape..and most of these peoples nieghbors have no clue there any where close to this danger.. I don't think you have to worry about your Hogg's...Well I hope not anyway..

                            I must say,

I am suprised so many agreed with my own thoughts. I know I have argued this point with many folks who feel there is nothing wrong with having a house full of venomous snakes and lizards without permits. I feel snakes, as well as other animals that require such permits, the perople should just get them before they get their snakes on impulse. Its like driving a car, we need to get the licience before driving, most do that, so no big deal with snakes.. I have a full UDSI permit to allow me any animal except African lions, bummer, was gonna pick one of those last week..LOL The permits are not that hard to get as long as you have a reason.. I do the wildlife rehab and visit schools all over NY with my snakes and borrowed lizzys and stuff. They checked me out to make sure I was being honest, no big deal. Just do the paperwork, who wants to get your snakes seized and fined..

I also agree with Clays post...

The way the permits here in oregon go you get one you can breed them sell them house as many as you want but you are responsable for what happens to the babies and stuff like that.... Like you have to make sure you sell to only people with permits... Seems easy to me.... How do they work around you clay... I know texas has a bunch of stupid @$$ laws so I can see them repopulating the wild with your snakes... that would suck.. My ? is what are these people doing with the snakes... I mean the local selters just kill them and most Zoo's have limited space and most of that limited space is full so I mean what was it 200 snakes where are they all going... Not into the wild I know that....
