  • RI IN PEET STORE!

    >Well this week end I was in a pet store and I always go to look at the boa's of course. The store has a set up as follows the cage is aprox. 2'x2'x1.5' . In this little cage there were oh let me take a staba and say 7 to 8 boa's. About three of them were neonate's and there was one of two that was guessing between 6 and 10 months. Now here id the pissy part there were all so two in the same cage over 4' one was over 5'. Great looking snake for them to be in a pet store. I felt the glass COLD. So I asked to hold one. Weh I touched it it was like I was holdeing a a piece of ice. The substrate was a little moist. Looking a little closer I noticed that the largest boa has a bad RI. I asked the guy who was helping me if he knew what it was "NOPE" was the answer I got. Well I informed him I also told hime the boa needed to be removed from the cage. Then while he was doing this I noticed that the 4' also has a RI. The guyn informed me that he had taken it out the day befor and that the owner had put it back in the next morning. I have my wife going to see if the snakes are back in the cage today. My Question is this. If the snake is backe in the cage with the rest of the snake's what action can I take to get the snake out of that enviorment. If not given the proper medical attion the snakes are going to most likley die. I fsome one can help me that would be great.

Honestly I have no idea. I am sure there is a state board of some kind. I just wanted to tell you GOOD LUCK, and go for it, if these snakes are not being taken care of properly. Dang, it just makes me so mad. >

do what i did find the number for the local animal control place and tell them the situation and keep in touch with them and make sure the do something about it. if you want to follow up your self to see. eventually they will have to fix the problem or loose their license to sell exotic animals or get shut down completely.

There is nothing much we can do to counter the malnutrition pet stores give their animals. Calling the local animal control works to a very mild extent. This usually takes around three or more tries before a lot of them start monitoring. The most we can do is try to educate them. Whatever the case, do not buy the animals because you feel bad for them, this is just like supporting them and if they can continue to sell the animals, then I will continue to do their dirty deeds.

Yeah, sadly some petshops are that way, when I got my first snake which was a ball python she had both ticks and mites. The petshop I got her at is doing alot better as they have all new staff working there and are doing much better.

If only all petshops would clean up their acts.

I called the local animal activist and they got the pet store I hated shut down... Worked like a charm...
Plus I called animal controll every time I seen a mamel being misstreated and they are gone... No more problems from those butt heads... hehe
            Well good luck...

                Thats great Eric,

I just don't understand why anyone would mistreat any animal.

Ya' I don't ether but if you noticed I gave you the trick for getting those places shut down... Find a miss treated mamel...
Like a cat or dog they work the best....
Then go to the animal activst group around your area and have them talk to the animal rights board and then file a personal complaint along with as many people as you can get to do the same and they will be gone in no time....

                    hi,
my thought are this they think of them snakes as second class animals, and really don't care if they thrive or not, I wish if they felt that way they wouldn't get them, many times the owner buy 40 baby balls for 5 bucks a ball python and then turns a huge profit, many of his employees are closet snake a phobics so they wouldn't touch that animal with a ten foot pole. many of the animals die from cheap cages and lack of understanding and the new owners are clue less, maybe a law should be passed requiring a basic owners permit to keep exotics. sorry if that offends anyone..
                    Its kind of sad.. :P
