YouTube - Fried Fish Eaten Alive!

A friend showed me that and it just bothered me sooooo much. I really question the sanity of any individual who finds entertainment in the torture of a living thing. Maybe I'll give these people the benefit of the doubt and say they are ignorant as there are still educated Americans who don't believe fish feel pain, but I truly feel that even if they were educated on fish the entertainment factor would still be the deciding thing. Even after I wasn't a vegetarian I went a LONG time without eating fish just because their slaughter is unregulated in the US still, but even our most barbaric slaughter techniques don't compare with that.

I'll never understand why some people want to torture their food. Some things, like the fear I have witnessed in cattle and other domestic livestock on their way into the slaughter house, are regrettably and perhaps arguably, unavoidable. Intentionally playing up on that is just so ridiculous and cowardly to me. I doubt anyone would do this is they truly believed that fish feel no pain, I think the fish's fear and pain are the main attraction for this dish and many others like it. I remember when the Olympics were going to Seoul (South Korea) many activists were able to get alot of public attention on the way cats and dogs are tortured before cooking because the popular belief was that the adrenaline produced from the torture leads to a tastier animal.

I hate to say something that sounds racist but much of the eastern cultures are involved in so many brutal and completely unwarranted abuses towards animals. Killing a wide variety of animals many many of which are highly endangered species to make stupid potions for virility etc... These ignorant ideas are too many to list. Rhino Horns for virility,Tiger testicles. then they kill a whole Bear for the Gall Bladder so on and so on.
I can't understand the cruelty ,licentiousness ,utterly depraved acts of
profligate wastefulness of nature and life

Of course they are not the only culture involved in such wicked wasteful
disgusting acts towards animals and nature

I don't think anything you are saying constitutes as racism Lar. This is problem that goes way beyond race or even geographical location. It's like you said, ignorance and I would add superstition. There is a huge problem at international airports during the holidays with people trying to smuggle foods for holiday meals. I don't how many rotten hunks of bushmeat I've seen come out of suitcases that was supposed to be a Kwanzaa meal, I'm talkin a full rotting monkey in several cases, maggots and all and the minute it was reported the media was accused of racism. Our modern obsession with Political Correctness has left us to feel as though we cannot point out problems with neighbors, even when it is directly affecting us IMO and it bothers me every time someone with a good point feels they have to censor themselves to protect the perceived sensitivities of others.

I was actually thinking the same thing. I've seen programs on TV where they eat live squid and things in Asian countries, it's quite disgusting. And they kill sharks and eat their fins, even though they are endangered species. It's awful that cultural differences and religions get in the way of educated decisions that effect the planet and it's wildlife. The world needs to be educated.

Hlfb - I know exactly what you mean. It seems like in this day and age, you only have freedom of speech as long as it couldn't possibly offend a single person alive, which is ridiculous. There is a difference between calling somebody out because what they did was wrong and racism, and unfortunately too many people play the racism card because it is the only way to distract attention from what they did wrong. Whether somebody is white, black or purple, it isn't right to smuggle bushmeat, eat an animal alive, or kill endangered species because of their own superstitious beliefs.

wow.

this is just horrific. the fact that there laughing like its a game, makes me wanna puke.

im a hunter (moose, deer, birds) and the first thing i was ever taught (well, after gun safety) was never to let an animal suffer, if your not 100% sure you can kill it instantly, dont take the shot, the thought of torturing something for my entertainment is just disgusting.

obviously we need meat to live (i know vegetarians can do it, but like, we were born wanting meat, its natural for us to eat it) but i think its our duty to minimize the suffering of an animal.

as humans we are blessed with being a very intelligent race, were not cats playing with mice, we dont live off instinct.

if an animal is giving its life up (involuntarily) so you can live then its your responsibility to a) eat as much as you can (nothing makes my blood boil like trophy hunters, i would never put antlers up on my wall or shed, an animal is not a trophy) or use the whole thing, native americans were very good at using the whole animal, we have alot to learn from them.

b) kill it quickly and relatively painlessly.
