Re: How many is TOO many ?
I live in a 3200sqft house, but I don't think size of domicle should decide how many is too many. I have two snakes, a BP and an RTB, but something to think about is this. Are you prepared to move if the landlord finds out that you have them or do you have a plan to get rid of them if the landlord finds out?
Secondly, if you can afford to care for them properly, I'm not sure that there is a too many as long as they are healthy and happy.

Re: How many is TOO many ?
I agree with what GT said, there really is not to many! I live in a place that allows them so i have quite a few. As long as you can properly care for them then have as many as you want. Keep in mind the hassle of moving a large collection in the event you get the boot. What you have now is fine, shouldn't be a problem and if you keep them in your room there is no reason the landlord should ever go in your room.

Re: How many is TOO many ?
As long as they're taken care of, there's no such thing as too many. Just be careful about your landlord. I was living in a house where I wasn't allowed to have pets. I figured when the landlord knocked on the door, I would take the dog out and put him in my car until the landlord left. One night the landlord came over and just walked in the front door without knocking or giving us 24 hours notice. My roommate and I went off on the landlord, who saw the dog and threatened to have us evicted.
I got a letter from my boss saying my job was transferring me out of state. In Ohio, if your job transfers you out of state, you're allowed to break your lease without paying a penalty. We stayed til the end of the month, left without paying any more on the lease and got our deposit back

Re: How many is TOO many ?
I live in an apartment. I have six snakes. My landlord is also unaware of them, but the lease does not say snakes are not allowed and I don't think he would care anyway, but if for some reason he did I would rather have less than more. I would wait to get more until moving to a house. Just in case. ... Well unless the right boa came along...

Re: How many is TOO many ?
Hmmm... I think the size of the domicile does have an impact on how many reptiles you can have. You should not have more than the space can accommodated. If you don't have the space for the correct sized housing as well as your own possessions then you shouldn't have the reptiles.
Example: I think it would be unwise to have 12 boas in an average one bedroom apartment. Space needs to be allowed for them as they and their cages get larger.
Balls are smaller snakes, but you need consider the space you have available, how much space the snakes will require, and how much space you will require to live there comfortable and safely.
You also are not going to have an unlimited amount of outlets available to devote to your reptiles. You will need some for you own appliances and daily living needs. You can't gang all of your reptiles on a couple of outlets - they are designed to handle a certain load, and exceeding that can put you and your reptiles at risk.
A lot of the people here that have many reptiles have specific rooms devoted to their animals. I believe The Boaphile uses an entire garage (correct me if I'm wrong there). This is done not just for climate control but to allow for other needs as well - such as electrical supply.
When I decided to get back into boas I had to consider how many I could maintain, and where I could put them. My home office is the best solution for me. It offers adequate space for larger enclosures, has the necessary electrical supply, and I can manage the climate separate from the rest of the house. But I'm limited to keeping 3 or 4 full-sized boas.
Think about how many snakes you have, how many you want, how big they will get, can your electrical supply handle them, and how long you will be living there before you start adding. ..Actually that last point brings up another matter to think about: will you be moving, and how often do you move? It's not easy transporting a large number of reptiles. A lot of planning has to go into it to try and reduce their stress levels as well as maintain and adequate living environment for them while they are in transit. ...Not to mention hauling around all of their enclosures and peripherals.
So, in short: where you live and the size of the domicile plays a big part in how many animals you can have. IMO

Re: How many is TOO many ?
Are you asking what the legal amount you can have or are you just asking for opinions on how many you can responsibly keep in that apartment? As far as the law goes that changes in every place so you'd be best to call your local by-law office. I myself have 5 boas and my girlfriend has a baby nic, so 6 altogether. We live in a one bedroom and we gave the snakes the bedroom and kept the rest for ourselves and the rest of the menagerie. We will be moving soon but as long as the snakes aren't interfering with your day to day stuff get as many as you want I say.
