• This is hilarious!

Some of you know that I had hip surgery on Tuesday, all came out well but I'm down for a few weeks. Home Health has to come visit me at home to make sure all is going well. Knowing this before the surgery, I made sure that they knew I had snakes, I didn't want someone to come up here unaware and freak out. Being the responsible person that I am you know. I answered all the regular questions...no, they don't 'roam around loose', no, they aren't 'poisonous', no, they can't get out...etc.

Well, the first visit was yesterday. The guy comes into the bedroom and we start talking about the surgery and the regular stuff. Now at this point, he has walked by 16 snakes that were visible in the den, past the 'snakeroom' that contains 10 and into the bedroom where 11 live. We go over all the info and do my exercises and everything. Just as he's about to leave, I commend him about not being afraid of the snakes. He says "what snakes, I didn't see any snakes?" ROFLMAO. You should have seen his face when we pointed all of them out to him. He wasn't afraid but was absolutely stunned at how we keep them in the racks and Boaphiles. He thought they would all be in aquariums and they were just pulling his leg about us having them.

This turned into a learning discussion and he asked if he could come back once I was better and teach him more.

You just never know when the opportunity will present itself!

Great story. So now I have to ask. Did they give you a walker?

That's too funny! But even when you keep them in aquariums, some people just don't expect a snake to be in there...and you know how motionless snakes blend right in to their environment...I've had people walk
right by them & not realize it also. Except for rattlesnakes...they know how to get noticed and they typically rattle at strangers.

tsblair asked a good question though...will they still give you a walker? or will they just make sure you can slither? ROFL

I do wish you a speedy-healing. We all have to take whatever opportunities come our way for "teachable moments", good job!

tsblair She doesn't need a walker! Just a cane and some giant sunglasses.

That's awesome B! You never know when a teachable moment will happen.

Hope you have a quick recovery, mi amiga.

That is good times, B.!

I use to host a poker game at my house on a weekly basis. A good friend of mine who attended the games is a state trooper and one of the toughest guys I know - a defensive tactics instructor who is highly skilled.

At that time, we had a small corn snake in a tank in the living room that everyone who came into our house had to walk right past. The rest of the collection is kept in the reptile room at the back of the house.

I can't count how many times my buddy walked by that tank, never knowing what was in it. Eventually the topic of snakes came up in conversation and he found out how many snakes we had in our reptile room. Since the day of that conversation, he has yet to return to our house. Lol

You just never know how someone will react.

Re: This is hilarious!

I have sort of a similar situation going on at the moment. I've put my house up for sale (I know, I'll miss the awesome house and neighborhood), but we've had a ton of people conduct showings while none of us are there. We threw some bedsheets over all of the snakes, and I would love to be a fly on the wall when people walk through the place trying to figure out what the heck all these covered blocks of space are. I wonder if anyone's taken a peek and gotten spooked, or if they've somehow made up their mind that there's a perfectly logical explanation.

Get well soon, you crazy old bat.

There are two ways to answer that question...#1 They NEVER GIVE you anything, you have to pay for it with the blood of a turnip, didn't you know?

#2 Just because I know how happy it will make both you AND Ernest to know it. Not only do I have a walker, I have to wear compression hose! I'm truly an old bat now.

I don't need the walker though, I'm perfectly mobile with just a cane or moving slowly. What they don't realize is that I have been dealing with far worse pain for a couple of years now, this is baby stuff. Well, except for the 34 staples.
