  • Need Some Advice

I'm going to my first reptiles expo as a vendor this weekend and have some questions for y'all. I realized on Monday that I didn't have nearly enough deli cups and I don't have a fancy smancy display setup so I'm probably going to have to spend $100 to order some from shipyourreptiles.com to get them in time for this weekend : /

If anyone knows of a cheap place to order clear deli cups online that would be awesome, I can drill my own holes, lol. I looked online but couldn't find anything. They're all either not clear or they're tall when I need something wider. My second question is about pricing. I only have the one litter that I'm selling so I'm planning on doing pricing as follows:

    - Ghosts (Possible Supers & 50% het kahl) $300 each. I only have three of these guys and they're very nice ghosts : )
    - Hypos (Possible Supers, 50% het kahl, 66% het anery) I was planning on pricing these between $75-$125 depending on their color.
    - Normals (50% het kahl, 66% het anery) $40? I honestly have no idea what normals are selling for these days. Since they're only possible for kahl and anery I wasn't planning on marking up the price based on that. I can't remember what normals were priced at when I went to the expo last time, about 80% of the vendors were selling ball pythons, lol. I think normal bp's were priced at $20 so maybe $40 is too much?

I don't want to sell everybody at dirt cheap prices but I also don't want to be asking way too much. Do these prices seem fair to you guys? I know it will probably vary a bit based on location.

I don't know how they compare but you might check out TSK Supply for deli cups?

Here are some reasonably priced deli cups from Pangea: 6.75 Pre-Punched Reptile Shipping Deli Cups

You can also see what they have on Amazon. You might be able to get quick shipment from there.

I would lean toward pricing things a little higher and leave room for haggling, unless you are really trying to unload them.

Ahh yes, I forgot about haggling. I may bump the prices up on the hypos a bit. Particularly the ones that are super red. It's really the normals that I have no idea what to price at. Even looking on classifieds it seems like no one has any for sale. I'm sure big breeders just whole sale them. I

I have all the pictures up on my website - Available - I've posted them on the forum frequently too. Some of them could definitely use some updated pics but I figured I would do that after the expo. Hopefully I'll sell at least a few of them there and then I can start advertising them more aggressively before winter hits and shipping is a no go. I've been pretty lazy about advertising them the last few months because I knew I'd be going to this expo. My job has been pretty hectic so when I get home I basically don't have the mental capacity to do anything other than play video games, lol.

I'm excited about going to the expo though. Even when I was breeding JCP's in California we never went to expos so this is a whole new experience for me. I am slightly terrified of mites though. I don't have the space to quarantine all the babies when I bring home whoever doesn't sell. I'm planning on cleaning all their cages and treating them with PAM and then soaking everyone before putting them back in their tubs. Also really not looking forward to getting up at 6am

I just realized you were probably asking for pics of the expo. It's been a long day, lol. I'll try to get some pics while I'm there. Not sure how much I'll be able to get away from my booth. Hopefully there is a little more variety this time.

In a time crunch, stop by your local grocery store and talk to the deli/kitchen manager. They are usually willing to part with a sleeve, and usually have many sizes and shapes available

Thanks everyone! I found some on eBay so I'm all set for this weekend. I'll try to take a bunch of pictures while I'm there and report back how it goes!

                      Re: Need Some Advice

Just wanted to report back about the expo. It was a lot of fun (minus the getting up at 6am part) and I sold a whopping zero boas, lol. I wasn't really surprised about the lack of sales. I've gone to a few of these as an attendee and most of the vendors are selling ball pythons and crested geckos. Most of the people attending are families looking for a good starter pet for their kid or BP breeders. Aside from me there were only three other people that I saw who were only selling boas. A few be vendors were selling a mix of reptiles. I didn't get to walk around too much because I was by myself and couldn't leave my booth for long. There's another one in January so hopefully I can bring the boyfriend to help me out and then I'll wander around more. I'd love to pick up a leaf toed gecko and I'm pretty sure a couple vendors sell them. Maybe I'll get lucky and sell everything online by then and then I can go as an attendee with lots of money : )

I'm sorry you didn't sell any boas, that bites. I understand about the small expos though, it happens. Hopefully you will do as you said and sell everything online!
