• Educational insight...

Ok so a guy or whoever they were, from serpent encounters facebook page made a post about poisonous snakes, and i was like . Hey there is no such thing as a poisonous snake. And the response went thru the roof LOL.. I started getting tagged in all kinda of things.. Now i have not had the chance to look more into this but this snake is from japan and it is called a tiger keelback snake (Rhabdophis tigrinus) Now i myself had never heard of this kind of snake. So I asked, so if it bit me would i need medical attention and yes guy said no.. So i`m like what? So this snake supposedly take the poisonous from toads as they eat them. Now poison by touch can cause skin infections or can kill you. Venomous is thru a bite that travels the blood stream. So basically touching this snake is like touching poison ivy but a bite from this snake does me no harm... WAIT! I DON'T GET IT.. Can someone who know of this snake give me more insight because i`ve learned that there are many many many things on this planet that are poisonous but snakes were never one of them....

Snakes with weak venom can eat frogs with poison to aid their venom. Hog nose snakes are a good example. I don't think there is any reason a snake couldn't be poisonous... especially if it was coated in poison from it's prey.

Yea this person clearly told me that there was no type of venom what so ever and said its all poisonous. That`s why i said or told him the is not such thing as a poisonous snake but if a snake has very little venom and can eat a toad to gain its poison then that kind of doesn't make it a poisonous snake if it already has venom in it

Ok so apparently this is 1 of 3 the R. T. Tigrinus, R.T. formous and the R. T. Lateralis.. snakes that carries both poison and venom. Poison is stored at the back of the neck. Although with a bite, there is no anti venom. I dnt get how can u even think of an anti venom with a snake that doesn't give you Hemotoxins or neurotoxin from a bite. It's only talks abt poison. To my knowledge you don't get poison thru a bite.

acephantom903 never mind the last comment, found it LOL... found what you were talking about. Now I have a little more understanding of it. But still don't think people should call it a poisonous snake. When it has venom as well, even tho its a low amount. It still has venom... LOL

            Re: Educational insight...

It IS a poisonous snake because if you were to bite into it you would gain toxin from the glands in its neck. So yes, there is such a thing as a poisonous snake.

Don't you just hate those "exceptions"? All pythons lay eggs...except for a couple that don't...and all boas have live births, except for... Good question Jrock23, now we're all smarter!
